Sen. Barrasso: Trump Undermines Iran’s Power

As the saga with Iran continues to unfold, one can’t help but appreciate the delicate balancing act that America is trying to perform. With President Trump reportedly negotiating an agreement to end the prolonged tensions with Iran, it’s almost as if everyone’s waiting to see if this is going to be the “Art of the Deal” or just a rerun of previous administrations’ foreign policies. And naturally, the country is on edge, holding its breath as more details are expected to come out soon. Optimists can only hope that this will lead to the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, which could subsequently ease global oil prices – a notion that undoubtedly has American drivers rejoicing at the very idea.

While the details of this deal are still emerging, it seems that President Trump is committed to making sure Iran’s uranium stockpile doesn’t make it to fruition. According to Senate Majority Whip John Baraso, President Trump has, quote-un-assisted, forced Iran to the table through a position of American strength. Now, how exactly did he manage to “cut the legs out from under Iran,” as Senator Baraso put it? The word around the political water cooler is that President Trump’s robust stance against Iran may be finally paying off. Let’s give credit where credit is due – there’s a certain finesse in giving Iran some much-needed elbow grease.

Senator Baraso, like many in his camp, is staunchly opposed to a nuclear Iran. And rightly so, considering the never-ending game of nuclear fetch that has played out on the global stage. But yet again, can anyone truly know if Iran will adhere to the terms of this potential agreement? The nature of the deal cherishes verifiability and enforcement, and rightly so, as history has shown that when it comes to agreements, Iran may not exactly be the poster child for honesty.

Shifting gears, because there’s always domestic politics to throw into the mix, energy prices have been a bone of contention. From the gasoline that keeps trucks on the road, to the diesel and fertilizer that sustain farmers in states like Wyoming, there’s no denying that these are pivotal concerns. Senator Baraso quipped about Democrats and their apparent fondness for high gas prices and electric cars. After all, the more adventurous left has daydreamed of getting rid of the internal combustion engine. So, dreams of driving electric cars aside, it’s a fair assessment that resolving this situation with Iran and reopening the Strait of Hormuz not only serves international interests but domestic concerns too.

As the nation keeps a watchful eye on this developing story, let’s hope that President Trump pulls off a deal that genuinely leaves America and its allies safer. Winning the trust of those skeptical constituents who crave low energy prices might be just as crucial as convincing Iran to part with its uranium stockpile. With the midterms around the corner, remember, nothing steels conservative resolve quite like the smell of political victory. For now, spectators will have to wait, much like racecar fans at the Indianapolis 500, hoping this diplomatic race concludes with America taking the victory lap.
