Chip Roy Calls Out Opponents’ Overreactions

As Memorial Day arrives, it’s a time to honor those who have served and sacrificed for our country. However, amidst the BBQs and beach outings, there’s a bit of a firestorm brewing in Washington, particularly regarding the funding of some of America’s most controversial and critical entities—Border Patrol and ICE. Texas Congressman Chip Roy, who’s not just watching the Senate’s antics but actively participating in them, has some potent opinions about the Senate’s seeming indecision.

The Save America Act, penned by Congressman Roy, has been gathering dust on the Senate’s desk for months now, caught in the relentless gears of political gridlock. Roy, along with many of his House colleagues, has become tired of sending bill after bill to the Senate, where they face the political equivalent of the Bermuda Triangle—all activity simply disappears. Roy is understandably frustrated, feeling like he’s caught in a bureaucratic Groundhog Day, where each tomorrow looks hauntingly similar to yesterday.

Congress is attempting to fund critical operations like Border Patrol and ICE through a reconciliation process because, according to Roy, Democrats seem indifferent to the idea of a secure border. This isn’t just more Capitol Hill bickering—it’s an issue that strikes at the heart of national security and public safety. The lack of progress seems to be snarled in a convoluted mess of Senate objections, primarily influenced by apprehensions surrounding a financial fund meant to aid those wronged by government overreach.

Senator Ted Cruz recently gave a glimpse into the heated encounters that are a regular aspect of Senate life. He described a meeting where tempers flared like fireworks on the Fourth of July. Senators weren’t just discussing; they were making their points with the volume and intensity of a rock concert. The crux of the argument lay in the failure to arrive at a consensus regarding border security funding, an omission that would have been rectified had the judgment fund not stolen the legislative limelight.

Meanwhile, Congressman Roy is left scratching his head over the Senate’s reluctance to take action. He’s calling for a stop to the endless complaints and for action to commence. After all, the Senate is supposed to be the world’s greatest deliberative body, not a hyperbaric chamber for shielding bills from the light of day. If the Senate truly wants to place guardrails on spending, then so be it. Just get something passed. With security and order hanging in the balance, it’s time to move beyond the politics of protest and actually deliberate. Perhaps then, when Memorial Day rolls around again, there will be something to truly celebrate—a Congress achieving its purpose.
