The Strait of Hormuz being a focus of geopolitical tension and a potential flashpoint for wider conflict, the construction of new means of oil export, such as canals and pipelines, could be the key to reducing the world’s dependence on the strait and mitigating this tension. Journalist and author Dan Lazare joins Sara Montes de Oca (in for Scottie Nell Hughes) to discuss. He argues that there is no “practical” way to bypass the Strait of Hormuz and that such “chokepoints” are always a source of tension.
