Violence Erupts as Conservative Event at UC Davis Sparks Outrage

A conservative student event at the University of California, Davis, turned violent last week when masked protesters attacked Turning Point USA members, destroyed their equipment, and clashed with attendees. The chaos highlights growing tensions over free speech on college campuses, with critics accusing left-wing groups of silencing opposing views through intimidation.

hosted by TPUSA, a conservative youth organization. Video footage shows agitators tearing down tents, smashing signs, and stealing electronics while shouting slogans like “All Cops Are Bastards.” Brandon Tatum, a former police officer and guest speaker, defended himself as protesters charged the stage. “This is what mostly peaceful looks like,” he remarked sarcastically.

during the initial attack, according to TPUSA founder Charlie Kirk. Officers later formed a perimeter but made no arrests, despite clear video evidence of assaults. One student was struck in the head with a stolen sign, while others were shoved and had objects thrown at them. The university claimed it “protected free speech rights,” but critics argue administrators enable left-wing violence by refusing to punish offenders.

Kirk cited a 2023 incident where Antifa members vandalized campus property and battled police during his speech. Elon Musk called the latest attack proof that “the left is the party of violence and hate.” Yolo County District Attorney Jeff Rice warned the coordinated assault could be prosecuted as a felony under California law.

While universities often crack down on conservative events, they tolerate—or even encourage—disruptive protests against right-wing speakers. TPUSA members regrouped after the attack to continue their event, drawing praise for resilience. “Radical anarchists will resort to more violence if they think it works,” Kirk said.

Kirk urged federal officials to investigate UC Davis’s use of taxpayer dollars, citing its failure to protect students. California Governor Gavin Newsom has yet to comment, despite widespread outcry from conservatives.

While some students support TPUSA’s message, others accuse the group of promoting harmful ideologies. Protesters called the event “hate speech” and vowed to shut it down. TPUSA argues their focus on patriotism and limited government aligns with mainstream American values.

No arrests have been made, and the university has only pledged to “review” the incident. With tensions rising, many fear further violence unless administrators take decisive action to protect free expression for all students.
