In today’s modern world, there seems to be a persistent push to redefine family, often at the expense of what truly matters: children’s needs. The celebration of a birthday for children acquired through IVF and surrogacy highlights a questionable trend. Celebrating a supposed milestone while glossing over the fundamental realities of what children really need: a balanced upbringing with both a mother and a father.
Traditionally, a household included both masculine and feminine roles, each providing unique contributions essential to a child’s development. The nurturing aspect often embodies qualities like empathy and care, and the protective role model represents strength and guidance. When one parent attempts to fulfill both roles, it’s undoubtedly challenging, yet at least the child knows their roots. In some instances, however, children are being deliberately raised without one of these essential elements, all in the name of modern ‘progress.’
Ironically, as much as we advance scientifically, the basic needs of human upbringing remain unchanged. The choice to indulge in a lifestyle devoid of traditional parental roles leaves children in a precarious situation lacking foundational identity. This setup begs the question of whether the priority is the children’s well-being or the adults’ desires to partake in a modern ‘nuclear’ family that ignores both biology and tradition.
Furthermore, what about the social implications for these children? In a child-centered world, creating a situation where a child may feel different or excluded cannot be brushed under the carpet for the sake of appeasing adult whims. While some may claim this is a victory for equality or any other modern mantra, in reality, it might simply be another sad reflection of prioritizing adult fulfillment over child development.
In any healthy society, it’s vital to prioritize what’s best for the next generation, ensuring they grow up grounded and complete. The approach of some raises the fear that future generations might lack a comprehensive understanding of a balanced family, something our forebears likely never imagined we would threaten in the first place. It’s time to reconsider how these lifestyle choices could harm, not help, the most innocent and deserving among us—our children.
