The southern border of the United States seems to have become a revolving door, and not in the charming way we associate with swanky hotels. This has been a rising concern for years, and the issue just doesn’t seem to get the attention it needs from those responsible. The country is facing issues like sex trafficking and a wave of fentanyl crossing the border. There’s no sugar-coating it; this is creating one of the biggest national security vulnerabilities the nation has ever seen.
Amidst all of this, two known getaways have managed to slip through, and their whereabouts are currently unknown. It’s not just about those who evade capture, though. Under the current administration, the process of welcoming newcomers hasn’t exactly been the model of prudence. People are being brought in with little to no vetting under the guise of a legal process, and it seems like work visas are being handed out quicker than candy at Halloween. Perhaps someone forgot to mention that these things should be treated with a bit more scrutiny.
As if this wasn’t alarming enough, we have an important task on our hands: finding the bad guys before they can strike. Yet, the distractions never cease. Protesters are out there creating a scene at ICE facilities, acting as if they missed a memo about the 10.5 million people who crossed the border illegally. Where were these folks when millions were released into the country with nary a background check?
The previous administration’s efforts to restore order spiraled out of control under its successor’s watch. Meanwhile, the number of illegal aliens keeps inching closer to mythical proportions, with talk ranging from 12 million to a jaw-dropping 20 million. We’re apparently supposed to grin and bear it. One might ask the pressing question, “What did we learn from 9-11?” Feast your eyes on the fact that those with malicious intent are planning the next big attack. This isn’t scaremongering; it’s a reality check.
It’s nerve-wracking to think that while some undocumented individuals are turned away without much fuss, others pay a premium to avoid any checks. Why would someone willingly pay more to stay hidden, rather than take advantage of free flights, meals, and other perks? The answer shouldn’t sit well with anyone. When two million individuals are paying top dollar to avoid scrutiny, it’s safe to say they don’t want to be discovered. Add to that the knowledge that people are slipping through from over 200 countries, and it’s like being handed a recipe for disaster.
This isn’t just about border patrols being in over their heads or the well-intentioned deeds turning sour. It is a reminder that if something doesn’t change, history might just repeat itself when we’re living through this man-made crisis. The previous administration handed over a system, which despite its flaws, was functional. But now, it often feels like no one’s minding the store, leaving the nation wide open to threats that can’t be ignored. Let’s hope the warnings don’t fall on deaf ears.
