A shocking video shows Jacksonville police pulling a man from his car during a traffic stop. Officers broke the window and punched the driver. The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is now investigating what happened.
This incident happened back in February but only recently went viral online. The video clearly shows officers smashing a car window. Then one officer punches the man inside before dragging him out.
Sheriff T.K. Waters announced an internal investigation after seeing the video. He admitted officers have the right to remove people from vehicles but called the punch “totally unnecessary.” The sheriff’s office hadn’t received any complaints about this before the video spread.
Police pulled over William McNeil Jr. for a traffic stop. His window wouldn’t roll down, so he opened his door to talk. When he asked what law he broke, officers told him they’d explain after he got out. McNeil then asked for a supervisor.
The arrest report says McNeil became “verbally combative.” Officers claim he refused to exit the car when ordered. They say that’s why they arrested him for resisting without violence. The video shows McNeil calmly asking why before being pulled out.
McNeil has hired famous civil rights lawyers Ben Crump and Harry Daniels. They call this police brutality, not law enforcement. Community leaders demand all police video be released for full transparency. They want justice for McNeil.
Police face dangerous situations daily protecting citizens. While officers must sometimes use force, this punch appears excessive. True justice requires letting the investigation finish before rushing to judgment.
The internal review will examine the entire incident. Police work is tough, but our community expects officers to follow proper procedures. We await the findings while supporting both law enforcement and accountability.
