In the ever-captivating political theater, it seems some members of Hollywood just can’t come to grips with reality, especially when the name Trump is in the mix. As we roll into the second term of Donald Trump’s presidency, celebrities like Alec Baldwin and Jeff Daniels are reportedly having a meltdown. Alec, dear Alec, might need his mommy to help him simmer down. Meanwhile, Jeff Daniels appears to be living in a fantasy world where Kamala Harris sits in the Oval Office. One cannot help but wonder if these stars need a team of therapists on standby whenever election results don’t swing their way.
Trouble is brewing not just off-screen but on-screen too, as CBS gave Stephen Colbert a pink slip from his late-night gig. Now this is a plot twist! Colbert, who managed to forget that late-night shows are supposed to be funny, ended up losing the network a hefty sum annually, presumably because laughing at the misfortunes of anyone right-of-center has its limits. Like a true Hollywood plot, liberal pundits are not blaming poor ratings or lackluster appeal but are quick to wave conspiracy flags, suggesting some grand Trumpian manipulation from the White House. Maybe they forgot that a poor act often gets the hook, with or without politics.
On the home front, Democrats are pulling their hair out over dwindling influence amidst a civil war of sorts within their own party. Even once-formidable figures like Chuck Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries find themselves overshadowed by louder progressive voices. While their radical base fantasizes about dismantling capitalism, raising taxes, and expanding government reach, traditional Democrats scramble to maintain relevance. Their fundraising numbers are dropping faster than Robert De Niro’s last movie ratings, perhaps because the average American doesn’t want to foot the bill for everyone’s social justice wish list. It appears as if the Democrats are caught between a rock and a woke place.
The situation is so dismal inside the Democratic camp that even good old James Carville, in one of his rare moments of clarity, described the mess with a colorful array of terms, none of which you’d utter in polite company. Despite his warnings, the new Democratic order doesn’t seem particularly interested in taking advice from veterans who have watched a few election cycles. Apparently, the desire to engage in what they deem progressive ‘progress’ trumps listening to seasoned wisdom. One wonders if they’re trying to lose voters on purpose, or maybe it’s simply easier to put the blame on Trump’s towering shadow.
And oh, lest we forget Hunter Biden’s antics. If he’s not critiquing Hollywood’s acting chops, he’s trying his hand at impromptu chemistry lessons on controlled substances. It’s as if the more scandalous he gets, the more the Democrats double down on alternative narratives, possibly to distract from the impending implosion of their house of cards. It’s not every day one hears crack cocaine being scientifically justified on live TV. As they say, reality is stranger than fiction, and Hunter seems eager to demonstrate that notion every chance he gets. The drama never ends in left-wing land, and in the meantime, President Trump seems all too happy to sit back and watch his enemies incense themselves into irrelevance.
