Former Border Patrol Chief Stunned by Mexico’s Travel Warning

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis isn’t one to shy away from making bold moves, and his latest initiative is no exception. The state has begun deportation flights from the so-called “Alligator Alcatraz” detention center, exploiting a conveniently located runway to expedite the process. Evidently, this is not your typical tourist getaway, but rather a straight-talking solution for handling immigration matters swiftly and efficiently.

Onlookers might find it somewhat amusing that Mexico’s Consul in Orlando has issued a travel warning advising its residents to tread lightly when visiting Florida. Apparently, the Sunshine State is now the stomping ground for the newly inspired version of lay down the law first and ask questions later. But perhaps the consul should have checked Mexico’s own travel advisories before pointing fingers, given the country’s challenges with safety and crime. Such warnings issued by Mexico might make sense if only mirrors worked both ways for them.

HHS Advisor and retired Border Patrol Chief Chris Climb weighed in on the fray, finding the consul’s worries rather misplaced. If anything, the consul’s remarks might as well have underscored the importance of adhering to U.S. laws and the consequences of veering off course. An announcement doing just that would do everyone a favor, both in Mexico and elsewhere. If travelers are put on notice about carrying the right documents while visiting, it could save a lot of trouble in the long run. Better safe than sorry, right?

Statistics revealing the impressive number of deportations during the initial months of the Trump administration seem to paint a picture of a well-oiled machine running behind the scenes. Reporting on the 67,000 Mexicans who have been deported certainly stirs the discussion pot. Climb, who had front-row seats to these operational plans in Washington, marvels at the numbers and the sense of duty driving them. With safety as a priority, one could say America is inching closer to unclogging its own immigration bottlenecks.

While some may grumble about conditions at Alligator Alcatraz, perhaps they should reflect on alternatives. A visit to a Mexican prison might offer a whole new perspective on what grievances truly look like. Alas, Florida’s new program seems on course to continue shaking things up. Deploying swift deportations and secure processing centers aligns with broader efforts to manage the immigration system effectively, leaving one to wonder what outcomes might be achieved with another year of such resolve. As the saying might go in certain circles: Let’s make processing great again!
