In Washington, D.C., things are getting simply out of hand, which seems as predictable as the weather these days. When there’s chaos in the capital, it is not surprising that the current administration would take action. Vice President Vance recently faced a storm of protestors when he went out to show support for the federal takeover of D.C.’s police department. One might think that locals would appreciate an effort to restore order, but alas, it appears some have other ideas. Those protestors seemed to prefer the previous chaos where “vagrant” characters made things unpredictable for their precious little ones.
Enter the National Guard, like a proverbial knight in shining armor. Vice President Vance, accompanied by the Defense Secretary and Deputy Chief of Staff, decided to pay a visit to those hardworking soldiers and police officers who are helping to clean up the streets. With a good old American gesture of burgers in hand, they were there to lend moral support to the troops holding down the fort. Apparently, their presence did not sit well with everyone, showcasing yet again what happens when law and order are actually enforced.
While some folks may boo from the sidelines, the numbers tell a different story. Reports are coming in that violent crime in D.C. has dropped by an impressive 30% since the increased law enforcement presence. Now that’s a statistic any sensible human would cheer for. With robbery numbers showing a decline as well, one can’t help but wonder why anyone would resist a safer city. But of course, logic seems to be the missing component in the minds of certain protestors who prefer to wave signs rather than applaud progress.
Not surprisingly, the national media is not fond of the federal presence in D.C. Shocking, right? One would think these measures would be welcomed with open arms, but apparently, some are too busy counting grievances to see the good that’s happening right in front of them. And, amid the cries of people claiming that these efforts are somehow offensive to specific communities, it’s worth remembering that improving safety is for everyone, regardless of politics or perceptions.
In related news, the state of political play comes with its own drama. Democrats, it seems, are finding themselves in a peculiar position of dwindling voter registration and enthusiasm. The probable Republican retention of the House should have them significantly worried. Yet, despite their so-called progressive policies, they’re running low on steam. One can only imagine what would happen if they, too, took a page from Vance’s playbook and focused on authenticity and real issues rather than running in circles. But, one suspects, that might be asking too much from a party stuck in a loop of self-inflicted chaos.
