Back in 2005, Newsom was sleeping with Ruby Rippey Gibney behind closed doors. She worked as his appointments secretary and was married to Alex Tourk, Newsom’s campaign manager and close friend. Newsom was also married at the time to Fox News host Kimberly Guilfoyle. Talk about a web of lies and betrayal.
When the affair exploded into public view in 2007, Newsom’s political world nearly collapsed. His best friend Alex Tourk confronted him and then quit his job in disgust. The scandal rocked San Francisco politics and showed voters exactly what kind of man they had elected as mayor.
Newsom did what politicians always do when caught red-handed. He held a press conference and pretended to be sorry about hurting people he cared about. He promised to get help for his drinking problem and check into rehab like a responsible adult would do.
