Trump Expands ‘No Tax on Tips’ to Include Influencers and Uber Drivers

**No Tax on Tips: A Cheerful Boost for Tipped Workers Under Trump’s New Policy**

In a move that’s sure to put a smile on the faces of many, President Donald Trump recently signed off on a significant spending bill that includes a delightful little surprise for service workers: a no tax on tips policy. This is no small potatoes, as it could impact millions of American taxpayers starting in 2025. For everyone from influencers to baristas, this policy is a game-changer that aims to lighten the financial load for those who work hard to earn their living through tips.

Under this new legislation, workers in tipped occupations will be able to deduct up to $25,000 of their tips from their federal income taxes. Picture that! Starting with their 2025 tax return and continuing until 2028, these hardworking folks can enjoy some tax relief that goes on top of their standard deduction. For single filers, that standard deduction is projected to be a cool $15,750. This means, hypothetically speaking, someone reporting the full $25,000 in tips could slice a whopping $40,000 off their taxable income. Who knew that tipping could be so beneficial?

However, not everyone is dancing with glee just yet, as there are some caveats—especially for those earning over $150,000 a year. For higher income earners, every extra $1,000 they make will reduce their tipping deduction by $100. So, for the high-rollers out there, it may not be all rainbows and sunshine. But for the majority of tipped workers, this policy presents a golden opportunity to save big on taxes.

It is important to note that, as of 2023, around 4 million Americans work in jobs dependent on tips, amounting to about 2.5% of all U.S. employment according to the Yale Budget Lab. While the exact number of workers who will benefit from this no tax on tips provision remains to be seen, it’s clear that many individuals make their living in ways that rely heavily on gratuities. Interestingly, around 37% of tipped workers in 2022 had incomes low enough that they did not owe any federal taxes. This brings into question how many will actually benefit from the new deduction.

Although the Trump administration hasn’t finalized the complete roster of jobs this policy covers, a draft list has surfaced that includes 68 different occupations. This list runs the gamut from traditional tipped professions like waitstaff and bartenders, to the more modern roles of influencers and online streamers. Yes, it seems even those who make a living promoting products and sharing lifestyle tips online might soon be able to tip their hats to a little more savings come tax time.

As the nation gently wades into this new policy, the Treasury Department’s input, or lack thereof, is still resonating throughout the newsrooms and coffee shops alike. While it remains unclear how many workers will benefit, one thing is for sure: the no tax on tips legislation provides a much-needed financial boost for many and exemplifies the focus on supporting American workers as they continue to contribute to the vibrant tapestry of the U.S. economy. So, here’s to tips—may the future be bright, and may every hardworking individual enjoy a little more cash in their pockets!
