Tennis fans got quite a show at this year’s US Open, but not the kind they paid to see. American star Taylor Townsend beat Latvia’s Jelena Ostapenko in straight sets during their second-round match. After the game ended, the two players got into a heated argument right there on the court.
The liberal media machine immediately went into overdrive. They claimed Ostapenko made racist comments toward Townsend, who is black. Suddenly every sports outlet was running stories about racism in tennis and another discrimination scandal.
But hold on just one minute. When did every argument between people of different races automatically become about racism? Maybe Ostapenko was just a sore loser who said something rude after getting beaten badly. Athletes trash talk and get angry all the time regardless of skin color.
Taylor Townsend is a fantastic American player who earned that victory fair and square. She deserves credit for her skill and hard work, not to be turned into a victim by race-obsessed reporters. Our athletes should be celebrated for their talent, not used as props in the media’s endless quest to find racism everywhere.
This is exactly what’s wrong with woke culture today. Every single conflict must be viewed through the lens of race, gender, or some other identity marker. Sometimes people just don’t like each other or say mean things when they’re angry and frustrated.
Tennis is supposed to be about athletic excellence and sportsmanship. Instead, we get wall-to-wall coverage about alleged racism while the actual amazing tennis gets ignored. Fans want to watch great matches, not listen to lectures about social justice.
The mainstream media does this same trick over and over again. Take any dispute involving people of different backgrounds and immediately claim discrimination. It gets clicks and views while dividing Americans against each other.
Real Americans see through this garbage every single time. We know the difference between actual racism and media hype designed to stir up trouble. It’s time to get back to celebrating athletic achievement instead of manufacturing outrage.
