President Trump’s latest salvo on immigration is exactly the kind of decisive leadership Americans voted for — a sweeping rollback of the failed open-borders policies that left our communities unsafe and our rule of law hollowed out. On Day One the administration moved quickly with executive orders aimed squarely at securing the southern border, ending catch-and-release, and restoring common-sense enforcement measures that had been gutted.
One of the most consequential steps was the reboot of the Migrant Protection Protocols, the so-called Remain in Mexico policy, which forces many asylum claimants to wait outside the United States while their cases are adjudicated. This policy worked to deter mass unlawful migration in the past and its reinstatement is a commonsense effort to stop incentive-driven flows and protect American workers and neighborhoods.
The administration has also moved to expand expedited removal and tighten parole rules so that illegal entrants can be returned more quickly and reliably, ending the absurd delays that allowed people to disappear into the country for years. These faster removals and stricter vetting steps are not only lawful tools but necessary responses to an immigration system that has been exploited by cartels and smugglers for profit.
Washington didn’t stop there: the White House issued a proclamation this summer restricting entry from countries identified as posing security and vetting problems, a blunt but prudent step to protect the homeland from those who would exploit our generosity. Restoring sensible travel and entry standards is about sovereignty and common sense — not cruelty — and it’s time we put American safety first.
Beyond paperwork changes, this administration has signaled a full-throttle enforcement posture: tougher detention rules, new partnerships with state and local law enforcement, a drive to designate cartel networks as foreign terrorist organizations, and orders to mobilize the military where necessary to seal gaps in our defenses. Those who complain about firmness conveniently ignore the chaos that open-border policies bring: fentanyl, gangs, and a steady erosion of security for ordinary Americans.
Conservatives who love this country should cheer these moves, not apologize for them. For too long elites in Washington have prioritized virtue signaling over the safety of real people in real towns; this administration is finally choosing action over rhetoric. If courts or the media try to kneecap these common-sense policies, patriots must stand firm and demand that our elected leaders do what is necessary to restore order and protect American lives.
Make no mistake: this fight will be messy and it will be litigated, but the alternative is the slow collapse of our borders and the displacement of American workers and communities. Hardworking citizens deserve leaders who will use every lawful tool to secure the nation, enforce the law, and put American families first. Now is the time to back leadership that defends our sovereignty and reclaims control of immigration.
