James Woods: Dems’ Racial Obsession Fuels Misery

In today’s political landscape, there’s a persistent narrative that some on the left seem committed to upholding—a narrative that maintains the perception of an unchanged, racially torn society. This is vividly illustrated by a recent incident on “The View,” where actress Pam Grier recounted her childhood experiences with racism. While personal stories of hardship can be moving and significant, the way they are sometimes presented can paint a picture that many find misleading or exaggerated.

Grier, born in 1949, described living in segregated conditions and witnessing lynchings in Ohio as late as the 1950s and 1960s—a claim that raises eyebrows. It’s important to note that historical records show the last lynching in Ohio occurred in 1911, decades before Grier’s account. While she might have faced racism, to imply that child lynchings were a common sight in Columbus at that time is historically inaccurate. Yet, the audience and hosts of “The View” received her story with shock and sympathy, seemingly accepting it without question.

This tendency to cling to outdated or exaggerated narratives of racial oppression ignores the substantial progress that has been made in the United States over the decades. It serves to promote a divisive view of the country as a place still fraught with the same deep-seated racial animosities of the past. By doing so, it neglects the reality of a nation that, while not perfect, has evolved significantly in its pursuit of equality and justice.

Moreover, this narrative can detract attention from other pressing issues that require national focus. Currently, problems like the widespread homelessness in cities such as Los Angeles persist despite enormous public spending aimed at addressing them. There’s a striking irony in spending hundreds of thousands of dollars per homeless person with minimal visible results. The misallocation of resources and lack of effective policy solutions are urgent matters that deserve headline treatment, yet they often take a backseat to narratives that serve a political or ideological agenda.

Finally, one must question the motivations behind the narratives promoted by some factions on the left. It appears to be more about maintaining power than fostering genuine societal progress. By perpetuating a narrative of unending struggle and division, these groups rally support under the guise of championing a cause, but at what cost? The misdirected focus leaves many real issues, such as the freedom of religious practices and the continual targeting of religious communities, unaddressed.

It’s crucial for the country to acknowledge its past while also celebrating its progress and focusing on the challenges of today. By addressing contemporary issues like homelessness with practical solutions and a realistic view of racial dynamics, the nation can continue to move forward rather than remain in an endless cycle of the past.
