Pam Bondi: Law Applies to All, Even the Powerful

In what can only be described as an audacious display of misguided rebellion, a group led by none other than Don Lemon attempted to disrupt a peaceful Sunday morning service at a church in St. Paul, Minnesota. It seems they mistook sanctuary for a stage and prayer for theater, storming into this house of worship during what should have been a serene service. Some folks have apparently forgotten that actions have consequences, and this week, the Department of Justice made that crystal clear with a slew of indictments. Welcome to the real world, where accountability is not just a concept but a promise.

This past January 18th began like any other crisp, icy Sunday morning, with families preparing to head to church, children bundled up and grandparents steadying their canes. But instead of finding solace in the comforting words of Pastor Parnell, parishioners were plunged into chaos. As they innocently joined together in prayer, a caravan of cars filled with individuals hell-bent on disruption converged upon the church. Sneaking in amongst the unsuspecting worshippers, these disruptive individuals turned what should have been a peaceful sanctuary into a scene of sheer chaos.

As soon as the service began, the chaos erupted. It was as if they had prepared their best impression of a poorly executed flash mob. The church was under siege from all directions with shouts and screams echoing through the sacred halls. At one point, a man declared it the “house of the devil,” which is ironic considering parents were blocked from reaching their children in Sunday school, while others scrambled for escape, slipping on the ice. The scene was both tragic and absurd, reminiscent of a poorly scripted play without any semblance of common sense.

Some might argue about their First Amendment rights, waving around the freedom of speech banner as if it absolves all sins. Well, the real kicker here is that the First Amendment doesn’t give anyone the right to turn a place of worship into their own personal circus. It’s not a buffet where one picks and chooses which rights to respect. Title 18, the law that actually applies here, says otherwise. Churches are meant to be safe havens for worshippers and that’s precisely what this administration is determined to ensure. Under the leadership of President Trump, such rights are protected while such lawlessness is met with firm and decisive action.

Meanwhile, the situation in Minnesota regarding ICE operations has its own air of comedy. The state’s Attorney General, Keith Ellison, tried to block these federal operations but was swiftly overruled by a judge. If you think this was some heroic stand, think again. It appears the message is finally being heard loud and clear: we follow the law to keep citizens safe, even if that offends the self-proclaimed vigilantes out there. The truth is, federal law enforcement is doing their part to protect the community despite being demonized by a vocal few. At the end of the day, they are removing dangerous criminals from the streets and restoring order. While some continue to whistle in the dark, agents in Minnesota are on the ground ensuring safety, one properly enforced law at a time.
