In the colorful world of politics, there’s rarely a dull moment, especially when personalities like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, better known as AOC, take center stage. Recently, AOC took quite the leap from the bustling bars of New York City to speaking at the prestigious Munich Security Conference. Ordinarily a gathering for heads of state, diplomats, and military leaders, it raises a few eyebrows when someone with AOC’s résumé is handed a microphone on such a stage. Despite the skepticism, she seems to be testing the waters for a 2028 presidential run, delivering her unique brand of progressive rhetoric at an event focused on global security.

Some might wonder why AOC is talking about climate change in a forum typically reserved for discussions about global military conflicts. While most attendees were likely focusing on topics like the potential for unrest between Taiwan and China, AOC decided to compare climate change to World War II. Yes, you heard that right—our planet heating up is now the new Normandy. While everyone was busy discussing real-world military tensions, AOC took the floor to redefine what a “world war” means in her environmental playbook.

Her foray into global politics didn’t stop there. When asked a straightforward question about U.S. military involvement if China were to invade Taiwan, AOC delivered a response with the clarity of a foggy day. Her answer stumbled around the barn, much like a baby giraffe learning to walk. It didn’t quite inspire confidence that she fully understood the gravity of international conflicts or the expectation that one day she might be responsible for handling them.

Amidst the global geography lesson she seemed to be conducting, AOC managed to shift her attention to Venezuela and our dear cowboy history. Displaying her geographical prowess, she suggested that Venezuela was below the equator, which got a swift correction by reality—Venezuela is entirely above that fictitious line dividing the globe in two. Then there was the matter of where cowboys come from. In her world, cowboys’ lineage involves anything but Spain, despite history saying otherwise. One could almost imagine those Spanish cowboys looking down, shaking their heads, and saddling up to correct the narrative.

Finally, AOC tread into cultural territories, suggesting that “whiteness,” unlike being German or Italian, is an imaginary concept—it’s hardly surprising this statement got some chuckles and raised eyebrows. As she waxed lyrical on culture, one couldn’t help but wonder how these musings would fare on the electoral stage. Watching her take stances and make declarations is as unsettling and fascinating as watching a kid try to access a cookie jar slightly out of reach.

AOC remains unflinchingly herself, even if not entirely factual, suggesting that the new political battleground is filled with new-age prophets and climate crusaders, ready to take on dragons of their own making. Whether she becomes the Democratic nominee in 2028 remains to be seen, but for now, she’s undoubtedly making waves, entertaining some and mystifying others along the way.
