In a world where common sense often seems to be as rare as a solar eclipse, it’s refreshing to hear about strong actions toward securing our country’s borders. After four years of unchecked immigration, the U.S. now boasts the strongest and most secure border in its history. Let that sink in for a moment! In the past nine months, zero illegal aliens have been admitted. Yes, zero, as in none. Where was this decisive action before, one might wonder?
Immigration critics have long bemoaned the flood of unchecked individuals crossing the borders. Thankfully, we now see a robust commitment to keeping Americans safe from the potential dangers associated with these unvetted masses. The National Border Patrol Council President, Paul Perez, recently attended the State of the Union Address. He noted the clear line drawn between who stands for protecting Americans and who seems to have their heads buried in the sand. It’s astonishing to witness the indifference some show towards their primary responsibility: protecting citizens. Only Republicans stood firm when pressing the issue of national safety at the address. Apparently, some need to be reminded of which country they serve.
One standout story from the address involved a young girl named Delilah Coleman, whose life tragically intersected with an illegal alien. At the tender age of five, her life was forever changed by an 18-wheeler driven by someone who had no right to operate on American roads. The call for a “Delilah Law,” which would prevent illegal immigrants from obtaining commercial driver’s licenses, seems like a no-brainer. Yet, there are still those who hesitate. It’s as if common sense is elusive when policy decisions could literally save lives.
Despite the impressive achievement in securing the border, we must address how these policies impact public perception. Some Americans, swayed by the mainstream narrative, have expressed concerns about the apparent heavy-handedness of operations like the one in Minnesota. Yet, when reminded of the tangible results: fewer tragedies and a safer America, even the skeptics must admit the visible benefits. It’s hard to argue against results, especially when the well-being of our citizens is on the line.
In the grand scheme, President Trump’s administration seems to be hitting the mark on border security. Of course, some detractors will always find something to gripe about. But as crime rates drop and safety measures tighten, it becomes increasingly challenging for others to downplay these successes. Until the day when every American feels as secure as possible in their homes and communities, the fight for a safe and lawful America must remain a top priority. Law and order, after all, shouldn’t just be catchy buzzwords — they should define how a country is governed.
