As the Department of Homeland Security remains shuttered thanks to the Democrats’ stubbornness, America finds itself facing a tide of terror on its own soil. Within just over a month, this great nation has experienced four Islamic terrorist attacks. The assaults have been carried out by individuals who, rather suspiciously, managed to become naturalized U.S. citizens. One might start to wonder if the bar for naturalization has been set so low that tripping over it is the new normal.
Most recently, the alarming events in Michigan and Virginia shattered the quiet of our communities. In Michigan, a radicalized individual drove his car into a synagogue full of children. The only thing standing between his maniacal plot and potential tragedy was a brave security guard who courageously stepped in to end the threat. Meanwhile, in Virginia, a convicted ISIS supporter decided to express his warped ideology by opening fire at Old Dominion University, resulting in the tragic death of a military professor. Luckily, a quick-thinking cadet put an end to the madness.
The attacks have been acknowledged by the FBI as acts of terrorism, yet the left, in its usual fashion, directs its aim at everyone but the perpetrators. President Trump, Doge, and yes, the ubiquitous scapegoat of “guns” have all come under fire from the liberal media. One can’t help but marvel at the mental gymnastics required to deflect attention from the actual crisis at hand—a crisis exacerbated by reckless immigration policies championed by previous administrations. It’s almost as if common sense is the real enemy in their narrative.
It’s also worth noting the current administration’s breathtakingly ill-timed decision to shut down the Department of Homeland Security. If the Republicans had done that during President Biden’s next international blunder, the left would likely be howling for someone’s head on a platter. Yet, when it involves radical Islamic terrorism on Trump’s watch, it’s crafty deflection and derisive finger-pointing that somehow take the spotlight. It’s a remarkable display of selective accountability.
Just imagine, if you will, the levels of scrutiny a positive connection to America might receive if such attacks had been orchestrated by individuals linked in any remote way to another political persuasion. Yet, this particular pattern of terror isn’t exactly new or surprising. Radical Islamists have been targeting the west long before Trump even thought of running for office. Convenience would have us believe that these ideologies only surfaced recently—an Olympic-level stretch of historical amnesia.
In these trying times, where tragic stories echo through the nation, it’s imperative to remember real heroes like Lieutenant Colonel Brandon Shaw. A veteran of multiple combat operations, Shaw tragically lost his life on his own turf. It’s deeply disappointing, though perhaps predictable, that certain liberal voices fail to honor such sacrifice, preferring instead to tumble down the rabbit hole of “blame it on anything but the terrorists.” While the nation honors those who defend its values, it’s high time we face radicalism head-on with decisive action rather than continue this parade of political blame games.
