Artemis II Crew Hosts Lara Trump’s Exclusive Orion Tour

The crew of Artemis 2 is preparing for a unique mission that harkens back to the golden age of space exploration: a journey back to the moon. As they gear up for this adventure, it’s worth taking a moment to appreciate just what this brave team will be experiencing. It’s not all glamorous moon landings and lunar selfies; instead, the reality involves some rather cramped and challenging conditions inside the Orion spacecraft. Perhaps they should’ve looked into more comfortable seating arrangements or maybe put in a request for first-class. But then again, who needs legroom when you can boast about orbiting the moon?

As the astronauts showed off a mockup of their capsule, it became evident that this mission involves a lot more than just blasting off into the final frontier. The spacecraft’s seating is interesting, to say the least, with four seats that will eventually become as useful as a chocolate teapot once they hit microgravity. The astronauts will be removing these seats to make the cabin feel “bigger.” Well, bigger is relative when you’re in a tin can 274 feet above the Earth, swaying with the wind like some sort of futuristic ride at a theme park.

The adventure begins with the daring ascension that’s 274 feet off the ground—higher than the Statue of Liberty. Talk about a view! But before they even launch, the crew will spend up to five hours in the capsule, strapped in and waiting. Just them, the ticking clock, and thoughts of what they might have left on back on Earth—like sanity. The anticipation might be enough to make anyone second-guess their choices. Instead of a peaceful start, it’s more like an extended preview of an action movie.

Once in space, though, it’s a switch from this hustle and bustle to the serene quiet of weightlessness. The crew, cinched into their seats, will float ever so gently as the rockets cut out. It’s an immediate transformation akin to flipping a switch. But let’s not forget about the amenities (or lack thereof) available to our space voyagers. With the bathroom right underfoot, privacy might be a scarcity. Yet, among the stars, even a door on a space capsule’s bathroom seems like a luxury hotel feature.

As the mission comes to a close, the seating comes back into play. They must reassemble these seats to endure a tooth-rattling reentry. The forces involved are intense—something the crew will keenly feel after enjoying the weightlessness of space. This ride down is as tumultuous as the way up, with the capsule engineering its way through the Earth’s atmosphere autonomously, all while keeping its precious human cargo intact.

Through it all, the Artemis 2 crew will bond over these shared experiences and challenges. Spending so much time together in such tight quarters is bound to leave them closer than ever. It’s a small price to pay for the glory of a lunar orbit. As they launch and land as friends, we can all watch in awe, cozy on solid ground, cheering them on and appreciating that while space adventure sounds fun, sometimes it’s better left to the professionals.
