President Trump has once again demonstrated his ability to infuriate Democrats while gleefully sidestepping their dramatic antics. With the signing of a $70 billion funding bill for ICE and Border Patrol, Trump’s administration just locked in support for these agencies until 2029. What a novel concept—actually giving law enforcement the resources they need! Predictably, this move sent Democrats into a tidal wave of despair, with one congressman bemoaning that the money would go to “terrorizing and brutalizing” communities. Heaven forbid we enforce laws that keep criminals off the streets!
The Department of Homeland Security Secretary, Mark Wayne Mullen, provided some insights into how this chess game unfolded. According to him, the President expertly outmaneuvered Democrats who were desperately trying to defund Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The funding was secured, and the Democrats were left sputtering about so-called “rogue agencies.” One would think enforcing the laws Congress already passed wouldn’t be such a shocking plot twist. However, Democrats seemed to be auditioning for roles in a real-life theatrical production rather than engaging in productive governance.
Meanwhile, the cities that pride themselves on being “sanctuaries” for one reason or another continue their antics. In New York and New Jersey, officials claim they don’t have the resources to cooperate with ICE. This sounds more like an excuse than a genuine plea for help, especially since a significant proportion of those detained by ICE face serious criminal charges. But no, let’s focus on the narrative that these are just sweet, innocent grandmothers being taken away.
Running tape on recent events in Europe, they’re dealing with their own waves of protests over migration and asylum laws. The parallels to parts of America are almost uncanny. Except here, under Trump’s administration, there’s no dithering whether the law will be enforced. Border security in America is a commitment, not a suggestion. While the Democrats continue their endless tirade against accountability and rational immigration policy, President Trump’s team presses on, apprehending the worst offenders and keeping communities safe.
As preparations for an international sporting event highlight the need for coordinated security efforts, it’s unmissable how cooperation, even from those left-of-center cities, miraculously blooms when the stakes are high enough. One wonders how effective these efforts could be if the same cooperation extended to broader law enforcement issues. Perhaps even the opposition would realize there’s more to be gained from securing borders and communities than pointing fingers and whipping up baseless fear. The new funding should help officials keep pursuing that practical approach, no matter how much the Left moans and groans. All while Trump sits back, smirking, as usual, watching them twist themselves in knots.
