Scotland Fans Ditch Luxury for World Cup: Why School Buses Are the Choice

The World Cup is a big deal, and Scotland is back in the game after nearly 30 years away from the spotlight. Fans of the Tartan Army are making memories in Providence, Rhode Island, where they have gathered in droves to support their team. With bagpipes blaring, kilts swirling, and Scottish flags proudly waving, this enthusiastic crowd has taken over downtown and turned it into a celebration of Scottish pride and camaraderie.

Why Providence, you ask? Well, it turns out that for these dedicated fans, it was all about the dollar bills. Traveling to Boston might have been tempting, but Providence offers more bang for the buck. Accommodations and amenities were kinder on the wallet, making it the perfect launchpad for Scotland’s long-awaited World Cup return. But as the fans soon discovered, getting to Glette Stadium was a bit of a pickle. There’s no train service to the venue, and shuttles weren’t exactly cheap—at a steep $95 a pop, that price tag just wouldn’t do for these budget-savvy Scots.

So, in true Scottish spirit, the Tartan Army decided to get creative. They chartered over 20 bright yellow school buses for an adventure that would take them straight to the action—at a mere $38 round trip, which conveniently included beer. Yes, you read that right! In an effort to dodge what they called “exploitation” by FIFA, these fun-loving fans turned a potentially costly venture into an opportunity for a spirited, communal ride. With a group of around 10,000 supporters boarding the buses, the atmosphere was electric as they embarked on their 45-minute journey to the match.

But this trip wasn’t just about fun and games. The Tartan Army also showed a heart of gold by donating about $10,000 in proceeds from the bus charters to a local children’s hospital. It’s a gesture that reflects the generosity and goodwill of these fans, proving that while they may have come to cheer for their team, they also care about the community they are visiting.

After the final whistle blew, the fans disembarked from the yellow buses, ready to share tales of glory or, perhaps, lament the outcome of the match. But the adventures wouldn’t end there—next up was Miami, where Scotland would face the mighty Brazil in another exciting showdown. With a spirit as bright as their buses, the Tartan Army continues to create unforgettable moments on and off the field, leaving a trail of laughter, friendship, and good deeds in their wake. Who knew a World Cup could bring not just fans together, but also inspire a community along the way?
