GOP Lawmaker: Trump Rejects War, Prioritizes Peace

In the latest episode of political theater, the Democrats are once again using international conflict as an excuse to throw darts at President Trump’s administration. Amid escalating tensions with Iran, the President has reportedly said that the United States is “locked and loaded” and waiting to see if Iran’s aggression continues before taking further action. Meanwhile, Democrats have taken to the airwaves criticizing Trump’s supposedly erratic approach. Wait a minute, haven’t we heard this tune before? It seems like their favorite pastime is attacking Trump, while ignoring the complex reality of international diplomacy.

Now, for those who have been paying attention—and really, who wouldn’t be in these times?—President Trump has made it clear that he doesn’t relish the idea of going to war. Despite the melodramatic cries, Trump has shown, time and again, his preference for negotiation and diplomacy first. It’s not precisely a Shakespearean tragedy that he doesn’t want to launch an attack unless absolutely necessary. As much as we’d all love a good war movie, real life isn’t about dramatics for dramatics’ sake.

Senator Rick Scott, a familiar face who actually gets things done on Capitol Hill, joined the conversation to defend the president’s strategy. Unlike the Democrats throwing critique grenades from behind their mics, Scott acknowledged the President’s courage in facing down Iran. You can’t just sweep under the rug that past presidents have let Iran run wild like it’s their personal playground. Scott has been straightforward about the need to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons, even if that means military action. It’s a tough stance, but perhaps someone needs to remind everyone that pacifism is not a catch-all fix for global threats.

Switching topics from wild threats abroad to the circus act at home, there’s the ever-entertaining saga with Dr. Anthony Fauci and COVID-19 repercussions. The mainstream media might have forgotten to hold Fauci accountable, but Senator Rand Paul sure hasn’t. Inspired by classic courtroom dramas, Paul is determined to hold Dr. Fauci in contempt over his elusive behavior in Senate hearings. It remains to be seen if anything will actually come of it, but it would surely be a spectacle to watch Fauci face the music like some of his contemporaries. Accountability, after all, shouldn’t be just for those out of political favor.

Finally, there’s the latest drama on the home front involving voting laws. Can it be true that a federal judge blocked the Department of Justice from accessing New Jersey’s unredacted voter rolls after discovering non-citizens were registered to vote? Say it isn’t so! Unfortunately, it is, and the Save America Act is apparently clogged in the political pipeline, unable to slip past the obstacles of filibusters and arcane Senate rules. The Republicans have been cooking up a storm to try to press on with voter ID laws, but as it stands, the bureaucratic bellyaching makes for a tedious waiting game. For now, the act remains just another file on someone’s cluttered desk, leaving frustrated citizens to wonder when—or if—they’ll get their much-needed electoral safeguards.
