Thiessen Sounds Alarm: Trump’s Iran Move Was Crucial

As the midterm elections approach, President Trump and Vice President Vance are back on the campaign trail, energizing their base and warning about the so-called radical left. They paint a picture more terrifying than a haunted house on Halloween, insisting that Democrats are readying to destroy all the progress made over the last few years. Open borders, sanctuary cities, and massive tax hikes are just a few of the nightmares they predict, vowing that strong, steadfast Republicans like Senator Darlene Graham in South Carolina won’t let that happen.

Now, one could question if these doomsday scenarios are more fiction than fact, but it does make for an entertaining campaign message. Meanwhile, Vance touts that despite the economic strain most Americans are feeling, particularly in the Midwest, there’s light at the end of the tunnel with promising reports of drops in crime and inflation. He conveniently brushes over the fact that not every potential voter shares this rosy view, especially as they face higher grocery bills and gas prices.

The real kicker here is the Democrats’ strategy—or some might say lack of it—in choosing candidates to reclaim control of Congress. There’s talk of a Democratic candidate in Michigan who reportedly doesn’t share the state’s love for football—a sport that is practically a religion there. Then there’s Graham Platner, supposedly bearing a questionable tattoo that would make any campaign strategist facepalm. It’s as if the Democrats are writing a manual on how not to win an election.

The foreign policy realm is not immune to this melodrama, thanks to the ongoing yet unresolved conflict with Iran. Apparently, the U.S. stopped a military campaign at the 20-yard line, which is nearly as frustrating as when your favorite team fumbles in the fourth quarter. There’s buzz about Operation Economic Fury involving unprecedented economic sanctions on Iran, aimed at kneecapping its economy before it poses any new threat. However, there’s also talk of an “October surprise,” which sounds about as welcoming as a surprise pop quiz on a Monday morning.

It seems the best laid plans are occasionally interrupted by persistent realities and unexpected events. Whether it’s a faltering economy or a pressing global conflict, the political landscape is more akin to a soap opera than a calm debate stage. As the debate rages on about what direction America should go, all eyes will be on the unfolding drama as the midterm results draw near. Whatever the outcome, the journey there promises to be anything but dull.
