Critics argue that these are not replacements but rather entirely new positions created for no particular reason other than the government’s newfound zeal to bulk up its ranks. Of course, when the topic of cutting down on government jobs comes up, the left often raises an alarm, claiming it to be a direct attack on organized labor. Suppose you work 20 years for the federal government; you could be eligible for a generous pension, allowing you to retire at a sprightly age of 40. That raises some eyebrows when considering all those tax dollars that keep flowing to support such arrangements. If the Trump administration’s cuts resulted in around 270,000 fewer employees and subsequently saved taxpayers a staggering $30 billion annually, you begin to wonder if perhaps less really could be more.
