ABC Journalist Slammed for ‘Unacceptable’ Tweet by Leavitt

In the latest saga of high-stakes politics and high-profile personalities, President Trump and Elon Musk are embroiled in a public squabble that’s shaking up Washington. The once seemingly amicable relationship between the former president and the trailblazing billionaire has hit a rough patch. This latest tiff stems from Trump pulling the nomination of Musk ally Jared Isaacman for NASA headship and steamrolling a bill devoid of subsidies for Elon Musk’s beloved electric vehicles. Musk took to the platform formerly known as Twitter, now simply “X,” to voice his displeasure, branding the bill a “disgusting abomination.” Clearly, Musk isn’t one to hold back when irked.

As lawmakers were scrambling to push this “big, beautiful bill” through the Senate, Musk threw his own curveball. He proposed the creation of a new political party, hinting at longevity over the aging Trump and even suggesting impeachment. It was an outburst designed to rattle a few cages, to say the least. But Trump, always composed (or at least trying to be), decided to take the so-called high road, urging lawmakers to pass the historic bill and focusing on his economic masterplan—after all, it involves cutting expenses and delivering colossal tax breaks.

However, this tussle isn’t isolated to just these two titans. It has inadvertently given leverage to a clutch of senators who were already vocal about the bill’s lavish expense. As Ron Johnson from Wisconsin pointed out, the astronomical $2.4 trillion projected deficit increase over the coming decade is enough to make anyone wince. These penny-pinching senators are now more empowered, with Johnson pushing for a more piecemeal, less financially backbreaking, approach to legislation.

While President Trump may prefer the one-and-done route to legislation, some senators aren’t so keen. Johnson, for instance, advocates a “skinny” bill approach, keen to keep fiscal responsibility at the forefront of the political agenda. Not once to mince words, Johnson declared that the mounting debt problem is unsustainable, drawing on his Tea Party roots. Whether this approach will gain traction remains to be seen, as party cohesion hangs in the balance amid these financial frictions.

In the meantime, the president’s job is as tricky as ever. With Musk stirring the pot and dissenting senators holding their ground, Trump’s administration has work to do in selling the “big, beautiful bill” as a fiscal savior. The narrative hinges on promises of monumental savings and economic growth that will supposedly slash the national deficit over the long term. If the raucous rhetoric and political posturing subside long enough for serious discussions to occur, Trump’s vision might just get the green light—unless Musk’s mighty wit and newfound political ambitions continue to muddy the waters.
