ABC Pulls Plug on Kimmel After Kirk Lie Controversy

In a stunning turn of events that seemed like it was ripped straight from an unexpected twist in a late-night drama, Disney’s ABC has decided to pull the plug on Jimmy Kimmel’s show, much to the delight of conservatives everywhere. The Los Angeles Times reported on this significant development after a series of events unfolded following host Jimmy Kimmel’s recent comments, which ignited quite the political firestorm.

The controversy began when Kimmel allegedly made a statement mentioning that Tyler Robinson, who killed conservative activist Charlie Kirk, “might have been a pro-Trump Republican,” and added that MAGA supporters are “desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them.” This sparked outrage, and critics quickly rallied, accusing Kimmel of effectively blaming the victim while being insensitively dismissive of the tragedy.

Nexstar Media Group, one of the largest owners of TV stations in the U.S., decided it simply couldn’t air Kimmel’s show any longer. This decision was announced on Wednesday following Kimmel’s comments during his Monday monologue.

The choice to preempt Kimmel’s show was a major blow. The impact on viewership—and ad revenue—was not something ABC could ignore. It all boiled down to the broadcast giant pulling the plug indefinitely. This is what happens when late-night humor crosses a line, and the result is that a significant chunk of viewers suddenly find themselves without their late-night host.

For many, especially in the conservative circles, this feels like a victory. The power dynamics seem to have shifted, albeit temporarily, away from Hollywood elites and back toward those demanding respect and decency from public figures. The move has been hailed by some as a cultural reset, a return to valuing genuine dialogue over incendiary rhetoric. Meanwhile, Kimmel, who routinely pokes the bear named political controversy, might now find himself sitting out indefinitely, reflecting on the consequences of his barbed monologue.

In the end, even those who might occasionally flip to Kimmel’s channel for entertainment must concede: in this instance, the power of the audience and their grievances won out. Whether this marks a final curtain call for Kimmel or a momentary break remains to be seen, but one thing is clear—it certainly gives cause to pause and consider how much influence the viewing public holds.
