AOC’s Secret DC Summit: What NY Rep Zohran Mamdani Wants

In the ever-entertaining world of Democrat politics, New York City’s Democratic mayoral candidate, Zohran Mamdani, has traveled to Washington, D.C., for what promises to be a breakfast meeting for the ages. Hosted by none other than Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC), Mamdani aims to charm his fellow Democrats and, possibly, explain what he really means by his controversial call to “globalize the Intifada.” This meeting features a lineup of Democrats eager to size up the candidate and discover whether he is friend or foe—or, perhaps, just an unwitting political gift to Republicans everywhere.

Mamdani is working overtime trying to win over his Democratic colleagues. With breakfast about to be served, questions are swirling like powdered sugar on a Belgian waffle. Chief among them is just how Mamdani plans to clarify his previously murky political stance that has caused such a stir among Democrats. It’s high time he steps up to the plate (pun intended) since many Democrats wonder whether he’s a political liability as elections loom on the horizon. Some, like AOC, suggest a face-to-face meeting could clear the air—assuming, of course, there isn’t too much syrupy political rhetoric gumming up the conversation.

Meanwhile, the political whispers are growing louder, with some insiders confidently drooling over the possibility that Mamdani may single-handedly boost the Republican cause in New York State. Democrats such as Hakeem Jeffries and Chuck Schumer are keeping their distance for now, carefully sidestepping any direct endorsements until they meet Mamdani under the bright New York City sky. It appears not all Democratic heavyweights are ready to pin their colors to the Mast—possibly because they have yet to discover just how much sway, or risk, Mamdani’s “globalize the Intifada” slogan will have at the ballot box.

Adding to this breakfast ménage, former President Donald Trump has weighed in with his usual subtlety—or lack thereof. Labeling Mamdani a communist during his verbal jousting, Trump even hinted he might crash the breakfast, if only he were invited. Say what you like about Trump’s policies, but his ability to make breakfast a political battlefield is truly unparalleled. But perhaps Trump should hold back on reaching for the fork. Despite Mamdani already securing some support within the Jewish community, the ultimate bagel endorsement from Chuck Schumer remains tantalizingly out of reach.

Finally, despite the air of skepticism and curiosity, there’s a palpable sense of political theater surrounding Mamdani. Some attendees are less interested in his nebulous policy planks and more eager to learn his brand of digital campaigning wizardry—a digital strategy that, to the chagrin of conventional Democrats, propelled him to prominence. To the bemusement of some pundits, Mamdani’s seemingly unstoppable rise may just teach the old Democratic guard a lesson they didn’t sign up for in Poli-Sci 101. Whether Mamdani can translate his online success to actual governance is another thing altogether, something New Yorkers and Democrats alike might be pondering over second helpings of rubbery scrambled eggs.
