Major League Baseball just made history by putting the first female umpire behind home plate. Jen Pawol called balls and strikes in a Braves-Marlins game on August 10th. But her performance raises serious questions about whether this was really about merit.
Pawol scored just 92.72 percent accuracy on her debut behind the plate. That’s well below the league average of 94.23 percent for male umpires this season. She missed calls on balls and strikes that any veteran ump should get right.
This looks like another case of woke politics taking over America’s pastime. Baseball has been around for over 150 years without needing female umpires. Now suddenly we’re told this is progress and we should all celebrate.
The timing seems awfully convenient too. MLB has been pushing diversity initiatives hard in recent years. They want to look good to the liberal media and corporate sponsors who demand this kind of virtue signaling.
What about all the qualified male umpires who have been working their way up through the minors? Some of them probably deserved this call-up more than Pawol did. But they don’t check the right demographic boxes.
Sports should be about the best person for the job, period. When you start making decisions based on gender instead of ability, everyone suffers. The players, the fans, and the integrity of the game all take a hit.
This is happening across all major sports now. The NFL, NBA, and others are all pushing the same agenda. They care more about looking progressive than maintaining the highest standards of competition.
Real Americans want fairness and excellence in their sports, not political theater. We deserve umpires who can do the job right, regardless of what’s between their legs. That used to be common sense in this country.
