Clooney Calls Out Democrats for Sidestepping Voter Choice

George Clooney’s recent sit-down with Seth Doane on CBS News Sunday Morning was more than a movie-promo chat — the Hollywood liberal who once urged Joe Biden to step aside bluntly told viewers that installing Kamala Harris as the Democratic standard-bearer without a proper primary “was a mistake.” The actor said Harris was forced to run against her own record, a reality that’s painfully obvious to anyone paying attention to how Washington insiders pick their favorites.

Conservatives shouldn’t be surprised when the elites eat their own, but it’s telling when a lifelong Democrat and megadonor calls out the party’s backroom shortcuts. Clooney’s candor exposes what many Americans already know: the political class values power and optics over accountability and voter choice. That admission from one of Hollywood’s most powerful voices should sting the mainstream media just as much as it embarrasses Democratic operatives.

Clooney also defended his July New York Times op-ed and said he would make the same call again, insisting he saw civic duty in pushing for an open contest. He even acknowledged the backlash from Hunter Biden and others but chose not to escalate a public feud, which underlines that his intervention was political calculation, not celebrity grandstanding.

Let’s be clear: this isn’t merely celebrity gossip. When high-profile insiders admit the system is rigged — when they say nominees were essentially handed down rather than earned — it confirms the worst suspicions of hardworking Americans about a two-tiered democracy. The MSM will wring their hands about “intraparty disagreements,” but the real story is that ordinary voters were sidelined while elites decided in private who should lead.

The reaction from the Sunday Morning desk was muted, and that silence is instructive. Network hosts can no longer pretend to be surprised when their favored institutions are called out; the country is waking up to a pattern of insiders protecting insiders. Conservatives should welcome any crack in the façade; truth-telling from the left about their own machinery helps our cause and strengthens the argument for transparency and primaries, not coronations.

Americans want leadership grounded in accountability, not handshakes in private clubs or deals inked behind closed doors in Hollywood fundraisers. Clooney’s remarks are a rare moment of honesty from inside the bubble, and patriots on both sides should seize it as momentum to demand real reform. If Washington won’t give voters a fair say, it’s up to everyday citizens to elect leaders who will restore integrity to our political process.
