Colbert Rages at CBS Over Pulled Interview with Texas Democrat

In today’s episode of “Late Night Wars,” we have the ever-entertaining Steven Colbear facing off against his own network, CBS. The crux of the drama? Colbear claims CBS’s legal team stopped him from airing an interview with a Texas Democrat due to some alleged pressure from the Trump administration. Who knew Colbear needed the network’s blessing to pull off his comedy bits these days? While he may fancy himself as a knight in shining armor, defending free speech and truth, Colbear’s choice of guests seems to lean more left than a one-legged duck.

The intriguing part of this spat is the FCC’s involvement, with Chairman Brendan Carr reportedly pondering whether talk shows qualify under the equal time rule. This rule is supposed to ensure fair coverage across the political spectrum. Apparently, Colbear’s definition of balance is hosting 176 left-leaning guests, against the lone Republica, Liz Cheney. Liz’s ticket to the show seems to be her well-publicized critiques of President Trump. When your only Republican guest is someone who isn’t exactly besties with the party’s leader, it’s not the best defense against accusations of bias.

Colbear, ever the entertainer, had an on-air message for the FCC Chairman, suggesting Carr himself is playing the partisan game. This claim would probably hold more water if Colbear had a more balanced guest list. The FCC has been eyeing Colbear’s show and others like it, especially after the Texas Democrat in question, James Telerico, previously excited a similar investigation following his visit to The View.

The interview at the center of this storm found a home on YouTube, where Telerico shared his insight on the future political landscape of Texas. According to him, President Trump is sweating over the possibility of a Democratic Texas. Interesting theory, especially considering Texas’s reliable conservative reputation. Nevertheless, Telerico’s words sparked interest, much like his previous appearances.

As the Texas Democratic primary heats up, early voting kicks off, and Telerico squares off against Jasmine Crockett. Meanwhile, Colbear might want to consider broadening his political invite list. Who knows, he might find that Republicans can add some spark to his lineup. After all, variety is the spice of life, or in this case, late-night television.

It’s certainly entertaining to watch Colbear punch upward and his network bat back down. But if Colbear really wants to champion free speech and fair play, he might look to his own guest roster first. Until then, one might suggest popcorn—because watching these two titans tussle is quite the spectacle.
