Denver’s homelessness crisis just got worse, and the numbers don’t lie. The latest government count shows 10,774 people living on the streets or in shelters across the metro area. That’s an 8% jump from last year and a whopping 87% increase since 2019. Liberal policies are failing our once-great city.
Mayor Mike Johnston loves to brag about his so-called success story. He claims to have moved 7,000 people off the streets into shelters over two years. But here’s what he won’t tell you – overall homelessness is still growing every single year. Moving people from tents to taxpayer-funded shelters isn’t solving anything.
The city has blown through $203 million on homeless programs in just two years. Now they’re facing a $250 million budget shortfall and talking about cuts. This is what happens when Democrats throw money at problems instead of addressing root causes. Hardworking Denver families are footing the bill for failed liberal experiments.
Johnston declared a “state of emergency” on his first day in office like some kind of hero. But emergencies don’t last for years while the problem keeps getting worse. This administration treats symptoms while ignoring the disease of drug addiction and mental illness running wild in our streets.
The cheerleaders in city hall want credit because fewer people sleep outside now. They moved the homeless into shelters and called it victory. But taxpayers are still paying billions while our parks, trails, and neighborhoods remain unsafe for families. That’s not progress – that’s just expensive window dressing.
Liberal Denver has become a magnet for vagrants from across the country. When you offer free housing, free food, and no consequences for drug use, don’t act surprised when more people show up. Other cities are shipping their problems to Colorado because we’ve advertised ourselves as a sanctuary for lawlessness.
Real solutions require tough love and accountability, not endless handouts. We need mandatory drug treatment, mental health services, and consequences for criminal behavior. Instead, Denver voters keep electing politicians who treat our city like a giant social experiment while working families suffer the consequences.
The beautiful Colorado we once knew is disappearing under liberal management. From marijuana dispensaries on every corner to tent cities in our parks, progressive policies have transformed Denver into another West Coast disaster. It’s time to admit these failed experiments are destroying our communities and demand real change.
