Ex-DOJ Official Slams Arrest of Wisconsin Judge as ‘Disturbing’

In the increasingly peculiar world of judicial misconduct, the case of Hannah Duggan takes the cake. The former Wisconsin judge, accused of aiding the escape of an alleged gang member from the courthouse, certainly raises eyebrows. Critics argue whether this is a giant fiasco for due process or simply a necessary clip to the wings of self-perceived untouchable elites caught red-handed—or in this case, red-robed.

The Attorney General made a bold statement to assure the public that no one, not even judges, are above the law. With allegations so serious and vivid one could almost see the episode unfold as something straight out of an action movie. Picture federal agents chasing down a suspect reportedly spirited away through a secret courthouse exit—by a judge, no less. This isn’t a question of showboating, as some might insinuate. Let’s call it what it is: a serious breach of judicial ethics and potentially, the law.

Switch the focus to New Mexico, where another alleged scenario of judicial misconduct unfolds with Judge Cano. We’re talking about firearms, gang affiliations, and a cozy little hideout built for housing the law’s most wanted. Suddenly, what once might have sounded like bizarre fiction sadly becomes a reality. If these judges are the supposed bastions of our legal system, folks, we’re in more trouble than we thought.

Of course, some political figures are quick to drag their feet, questioning the audacity of arresting a judge. Don’t they realize that aiding and abetting gang members, especially when there’s enough tattooed evidence to put two and two together, is a felony even a third-grader could figure out? No one’s asking for less checks and balances; it’s about exercising the laws correctly. Is it so revolutionary to suggest judges uphold the law rather than break it?

Sadly, these cases are outliers and not what we expect from our judicial system; however, they serve as a stark reminder of the importance of accountability. Judges like Duggan and Cano, based on the allegations, have taken the law into their own hands, metaphorically and allegedly quite literally. Justice sometimes demands taking the tough line, even when it involves those who make—and are supposed to love—the rules.
