Ex-Governor Praises Trump: ‘Promises Made, Promises Kept’

In a political scene where superficial changes appear to be all the rage, some are quick to point out that these cosmetic shifts aren’t enough to mask the deeply entrenched problems plaguing certain states. And nothing screams ‘superficial’ quite like the new facial hair styles of some politicians. It seems that the bearded look is in, but will it distract voters from the real issues at hand? According to some, the answer is a resounding no.

Taking Illinois as an example, the former governor has a few thoughts about the current leadership in the state. He recalls pleasant lunches with the current governor, but wonders aloud about recent changes. The governor’s recent weight loss might suggest a newfound dedication to fitness, but it’s more likely that modern weight-loss drugs have played a part. It’s noted that the current governor seems to dislike exercise about as much as he dislikes former President Trump. Political focus groups seem to have shifted attention to personal transformation, while ignoring policies that could quite literally transform the state.

And what of the issues that affect everyday people, like immigration? The current narrative is filled with sob stories portraying immigration challenges as elite problems—think overpriced meals and fancy neighborhoods. Yet the reality for many is much different. The big-city elites might see immigration as an inconvenience to their restaurant experiences, whereas the middle class shoulders the actual burden. The suggestion, of course, is that some politicians seem more interested in flashing their compassion cards than actually addressing and solving the root causes of the problem.

While this kind of posturing and window dressing might win some applause from carefully selected audiences, it’s hardly the recipe for genuine change. Voters are not easily fooled, and they understand when they’re being served a platter of political platitudes rather than real solutions. The problem is that some politicians seem bent on maintaining crises because they thrive on the drama, rather than working toward resolving issues for the betterment of the people they claim to serve.

In contrast, the former president’s approach is painted as more straightforward and focused on action rather than optics. His style, often controversial, is depicted as a dedication to delivering on promises, despite inevitable pushbacks. As it stands, there’s an undercurrent of support for this kind of no-nonsense approach to governance, suggesting a longing for leadership that prioritizes practical solutions over superficial distractions. Perhaps it’s time to put down the razors and diet pills and pick up the mantle of real change.
