Good Parents Losing Kids to Extremism: A Call for Conservative Action

Jillian Michaels’ recent appearance on The Megyn Kelly Show was more than another media soundbite — it was a raw, personal account of how good parents can lose kids to the fringes when culture and institutions abandon common sense and faith. Michaels told Megyn Kelly about her own son’s journey and how a number of young people, left adrift, found answers on the right and through leaders who actually spoke to them. Her story underlines a stubborn truth the establishment refuses to admit: when you trash boys and men, someone else will try to recruit them.

The episode also revisited the alarming trend of disaffected young white men drifting to extremist corners of the internet, a vacuum the left’s moralizing and cultural contempt have helped create. Megyn and her guests discussed how figures like Nick Fuentes have filled that vacuum by offering identity and grievance to kids tossed aside by schools and social services. That’s not an abstract problem — it’s the predictable result of decades of cultural rot where responsibility and religious guidance were replaced by resentment and victimhood.

Enter people like Charlie Kirk, who for years tried to reach those very young listeners with a message of patriotism, faith, and personal responsibility instead of nihilism. Kirk didn’t pander — he organized, argued, and showed up where young Americans were, helping many step back from destructive paths and toward a future built on work and community. His assassination in September shocked the nation and crystallized for many why the fight for hearts and minds matters so urgently.

Michaels’ anecdote about her son’s awakening to conservative ideas is a reminder that outreach works when it’s honest and unapologetic. Conservatives who actually roll up their sleeves and talk to teenagers in real language win hearts that the velvet-rope left can never reach. Instead of canceling or shaming, we should be offering moral tools, mentoring, and a vision of manhood that includes duty, faith, and family — precisely what turned so many young people away from bitterness.

The tragedy at Utah Valley University that took Kirk’s life also laid bare how dangerously unserious institutions are about safety and responsibility; investigations showed glaring security failures that a hardened bureaucratic culture shrugged off until it was too late. If campuses and media want to play moral arbiter, they should first be held accountable for protecting students and honest discourse on their grounds. The lesson is simple: culture and policy that ignore common-sense safety and common-sense values produce chaos, and chaos breeds radicals of every stripe.

Conservatives should take Michaels’ story and the outpouring after Kirk’s death as a call to action, not a moment for hand-wringing and performative virtue from the same elites who created the problem. We must get into schools, community centers, and dining rooms with clear, firm truths about faith, work, and national pride — and defend the leaders who reach kids without apology. The left’s project has hollowed out a generation; it’s our responsibility, as patriots and parents, to rebuild the moral architecture that produces responsible citizens and to keep fighting for a country where our children can thrive.
