The work ICE agents do is undeniably dangerous, and the environment they operate in often puts them in harm’s way with rhetoric that can lead to real threats against their safety.
One can’t help but notice the stark difference in border security during the previous administrations. Under President Trump, the numbers were clear and couldn’t lie. There was a remarkable decrease in fentanyl trafficking, which fell by over 50 percent. Each decrease in drug trafficking translates to lives saved from potential overdose deaths. In addition to this, there was a significant drop in sex trafficking of women and children, showing that the stringent measures were indeed making a tangible difference. And contrary to the smug remarks we often hear, fewer migrants dying on their way here is an indicator of a more secure border.
Recently, the horrific murder of a South Carolina mother at the hands of six illegal aliens has put a spotlight back on the issue of immigration enforcement. These individuals were involved in criminal activities even before the murder took place, showing the dangers of having illegal aliens who remain unchecked. It’s mind-boggling that some would argue for more leniency when such glaring examples of negligence lead to tragedy. If we cannot prioritize the deportation of criminals, then the system is indeed in tatters.
Amidst all the chaos at the border, there are also unsettling instances involving overstayed visas, such as the case of Mohamed Soliman, who tried to sow fear among Jewish protesters. ICE’s stance in detaining his family, whose visas were revoked, should be applauded, as it’s a clear stand for law enforcement and security against those who break immigration regulations. Yet, there are still dissenters who argue for a softer approach, claiming that cooperation is at stake. But isn’t upholding the law more crucial to ensuring safety?
Ultimately, it’s astonishing how some factions, notably certain Democratic leaders during the current administration, twist facts to make ICE seem like the enemy. When the agencies upholding border security are depicted as the bad guys and illegal lawbreakers are viewed as victims, it’s a clear indication that society’s values have been flipped on their head. The truth remains that protecting American citizens should be a priority, and the successes during Trump’s administration in cutting crime rates and enhancing security underscore the effectiveness when leaders put safety first.
