The ongoing situation at the American southern border continues to be a hotbed of controversy and political drama. It seems now that major street gangs, like the Latin Kings, have graduated from local neighborhood terror to challenging the federal government. Yes, while the Latin Kings may sound like something out of a medieval fairytale, they are actually quite real and have ICE agents in their sights. Tom Homan, known as the “border czar,” states that what we’re witnessing is a boiling point in the war between federal law enforcement and these notorious criminal cartels.
Even as the situation simmers, elected officials like Chicago’s Mayor Brandon Johnson appear to have misplaced their GPS coordinates. Johnson has issued a ludicrous plea to the United Nations to intervene in federal immigration enforcement, speaking about alleged human rights violations. Imagine asking the UN, which ironically supports migration flows to the U.S., to mediate in our domestic affairs. It’s as if Johnson is completely unaware that the very policies attracting illegal migration are facilitated by international bodies.
Thanks to the leadership of President Trump, the U.S. border has never been more secure. Under his watchful eye, ICE and Border Patrol have relentlessly pursued their mission to keep the nation safe. And while some politicians fret over things like the “dignity of all Chicagoans,” they overlook the dangerous criminals being taken off American streets daily. Aside from providing belly laughs, these antics surely give Homan plenty of material for his speeches, and one could only imagine how exhausting it must be countering ludicrous foreign policy suggestions.
Reports indicate ICE is dealing with record high numbers of detentions, but they’ve got a sensible plan: more beds and more agents. This is what responsible governance looks like. Instead of throwing up their hands in despair, grappling with logistics through increased resources and manpower promises a practical solution. While opponents might decry the “inhumane” treatment of detaining individuals, they sidestep the vital role these facilities play in processing and ensuring the legality of individuals crossing borders.
The fact remains, ICE’s diligent work makes neighborhoods across the country safer. Whether in Chicago, Los Angeles, or New York, every day they ensure another individual who breaks our laws is given appropriate due process. The numbers speak for themselves. Comparing the embarrassment of previous lax administrations, it’s clear that law and order reigns supreme once more under the current administration. Critics can scoff and complain, but one thing is for sure: the foundational promise to prioritize America’s safety stands unwaveringly strong.
