It was quite the spectacle on Capitol Hill recently as Secretary Scott Bessent faced the seemingly eternal Congresswoman Maxine Waters, who appeared entrenched in misunderstanding. One might imagine she’s been roaming those halls since dinosaurs roamed the Earth, yet her grasp on the workings of temporary government employees seems as faint as the distant past. Apparently, two temporary employees sparked an inquiry, and what follows is nothing short of comical.
Secretary Bessent tried to maintain his composure while explaining that yes, these so-called “DOGE” employees were actually Treasury employees. Yet somehow, this concept was as elusive as the plot of a convoluted mystery novel. Waters seemed convinced that strangers were rummaging through Treasury databases, though Bessent patiently reiterated the truth – again and again. And not to be outdone, others from her party made sure the circus continued to delight and bewilder.
The Democrats, seemingly on a quest for a sensational soundbite, probed like clumsy detectives. They tangled themselves in convoluted questions that even Sherlock Holmes might find hard to untangle. Bessent faced one barrage after another with the patience of a saint, while his opponents scrambled to find terra firma. The farce reached a height when he was asked to justify tariff negotiations without spilling any ongoing diplomatic secrets. A notion that would, of course, undermine the very negotiations they seemed so intent on protecting.
Let’s not forget Congresswoman Vargas, who resorted to deriding Bessent’s education and wealth, in some kind of class warfare throwback. The irony was quite rich – attacking a billionaire’s work ethics when the man himself had clawed his way up the ladder through honest grit. Much like a well-rehearsed skit playing on repeat, it’s evident the Democrats are delivering the same lines year after year with little effect. Their attempts at portraying Bessent as out of touch seemed almost as strained as their grasp of economic policy.
President Trump’s policies, which the Democrats aimed to belittle, focused on tangible benefits such as tax cuts for a broad swath of Americans, not just the rich. Somehow, the left continues to misunderstand the impact, perhaps purposefully blinding themselves to the uncomfortable truth. The Democrats, led by their seeming stubbornness and out-dated jibes, continue to miss the mark entirely, focusing on class envy instead of genuine solutions.
As the Democrats clumsily highlighted America’s reliance on China for essential goods like car seats, it inadvertently supported Trump’s aim to self-reliance. One might wonder if this blundered messaging indicates a faint glimmer of realization on their part. However, if their history of missteps is any indication, it’s just more of the same. They remain focused on old tactics, seemingly incapable of innovation, and sadly, they continue to dangle outdated narratives before a weary audience. The real question is, when will they find a new act?
