Every now and then, the spotlight turns to the intricate puzzle that is gerrymandering. This time around, it’s Texas that’s taking the heat for adjusting its congressional district lines. The Democrat chorus around Texas wants everyone to think it’s akin to a dictatorship, with their dramatic comparisons that would make anyone roll their eyes. The reality though is that Texas, with its booming population, has every right to sort out its districts according to its state constitution. Yet, funny how quiet it gets when Democrat strongholds like California or Illinois are mentioned in the same breath.
Gavin Newsom, perpetually dreaming of the presidency, should probably be more concerned with the mess in his own backyard instead of eyeing the White House. California might as well hold workshops on how to creatively gerrymander. Here, the people had voted for a non-partisan commission to oversee redistricting, but Newsom is itching to take that back to the legislature. Why, you ask? Well, it couldn’t be more transparent – it’s an attempt to siphon additional seats away from Republicans. When Democrats already hold a staggering 83% of seats with only 38% voter support, maybe it’s high time someone checked the math.
In Illinois, the story isn’t much different. The Democrats perform their own brand of political Tetris there, packing and cracking districts with such precision that it could be featured in an art gallery, or perhaps a comedy show. It’s amusing how they pass off their boundary-bending as exceptional legislative skill, notwithstanding that President Trump’s voters in Illinois find themselves sliced into humorous segments, their voices scattered like puzzle pieces lost under a couch cushion.
The juicy bit, often conveniently ignored, is how many people can’t seem to flee Democrat-run states fast enough. There’s a mass exodus from the likes of California with its sky-high taxes and crime rates. This fact remains the elephant in the room when Democrats cry foul over redistricting, pointing fingers faster than a speeding bullet. Helpfully, places like Texas and Florida are there to welcome those fleeing, with open arms and no income tax to boot.
And while Democrats practice the fine art of finger-pointing, it’s nothing short of comical to see them twist themselves into pretzels over the census fiasco. They stuffed extra seats into their states like a kid cramming clothes into a suitcase, while states like Texas and Florida, despite welcoming droves of new residents, were left short-changed. When all is said and done, the real competition they should be fretting over is the one unfolding in their own mirrors as their policies continue to drive their voters right out the door.
