Late-Term Abortions Spread: New Clinics Aim to Normalize 34-Week Procedures

Americans are waking up to the sobering reality that new clinics in Colorado and a planned facility in New Jersey are openly offering abortions up to 34 weeks of pregnancy — a point long considered well into the third trimester. These developments aren’t isolated; they are part of a calculated push by the radical pro-abortion lobby to normalize late-term procedures in states that have no gestational limits.

In Boulder, former staff from the landmark Boulder Abortion Clinic have organized as the RISE Collective and moved quickly to reopen late-term services after that clinic’s abrupt closure earlier this year, touting care up to 34 weeks. The handoff from a controversial old guard to a new, well-funded operation shows coordination and determination among abortion providers to maintain and expand access to the latest stages of pregnancy.

Across the river in New Jersey, organizers behind the proposed Luminosas Wellness Collective are explicit that they intend to provide care up to 34 weeks while also offering gender-affirming services and other controversial treatments. New Jersey’s permissive legal environment has made the state a magnet for this kind of unrestricted approach, and activists are now moving from theory to reality by opening clinics that will perform procedures most Americans find deeply troubling.

Let’s be clear about what 34 weeks means: modern medicine routinely achieves viability at or well before the mid-20s in gestational weeks, and the idea of ending a fetal life at 34 weeks is morally and medically jarring to millions of Americans. The number of clinics willing to perform such late procedures is small, which is part of why these openings are so consequential — they concentrate a capability once treated as a last resort into a handful of ideological hubs.

This trend isn’t limited to Colorado and New Jersey; other cities, including Chicago, have seen new clinics advertise abortions into the third trimester, signaling a national pattern of abortion hubs emerging where state law allows. What used to be defended as rare, tragic exceptions is being reframed as routine reproductive health care by activists and the media sympathetic to their cause.

Predictably, pro-life advocates and community leaders are sounding the alarm, calling these moves an unacceptable escalation that will scar communities and further devalue unborn human life. Local opponents warned that clinics like the proposed Hudson County facility would “leave an indelible stain,” and national groups have mobilized to expose and fight what they describe as an aggressive expansion of late-term abortion access.

Conservatives must respond with urgency and moral clarity: elect leaders who will defend life at every stage, support crisis pregnancy centers that offer real alternatives, strengthen protections for medical conscience, and hold accountable any public officials who enable this radical expansion. This country was built on respect for human dignity, and we cannot let a vociferous ideological minority redefine the boundaries of civilized medical ethics while silencing concerned citizens.
