Lee Zeldin Accuses Biden’s EPA of Choking the Economy

In a move that’s sure to bring some extra sunshine to those weary of excessive government control, the Environmental Protection Agency under President Trump is taking bold steps to streamline its operations and roll back burdensome regulations left from the Biden era. The EPA has proposed slashing its 2026 budget as part of President Trump’s agenda to significantly scale back on those fine-print rules and mandates that seem intent on stifling economic growth. The spirit of the regulation rollback is in full swing as the agency focuses on unraveling aspects of Biden-era initiatives, including the much-debated Green New Deal.

To many Trump supporters, these efforts are a fresh breeze of change. They remember the economic challenges imposed by the previous administration, where regulations did their best to suffocate growth. Under Biden, some thinkers reckoned that regulations were multiplying like rabbits on the American economy, trying to push out baseload power, which, not too surprisingly, happens to be what many Americans rely on to keep their lights on. But the Trump administration’s latest moves suggest that the pushback against excessive regulations isn’t just a campaign promise; it’s happening now. Senate recently took a step by passing bills to erase Biden’s waivers on California’s electric vehicle mandates. You don’t often see that, but change is indeed in the air.

Some whispers from allies suggest the EPA might be cutting too deeply, but hey, efficiency never hurt anyone. The EPA, operating with a budget of about $10 billion a year, has already managed impressive efficiency gains. It’s amazing what can be achieved when you refuse to waste taxpayer dollars on questionable spending sprees. They’re determined to operate prudently, saving billions by peeling back unnecessary layers put in place by those folks who believed that more control is synonymous with progress.

President Trump has also made a strategic play with his vision to make the U.S. a powerhouse of energy. There’s been talk about revoking the greenhouse gas emissions limits on power plants, which has been a political football since the Obama days. The idea is to let coal, an often misunderstood yet crucial component of the nation’s energy basket, do its job. Intermittent wind isn’t quite the steadfast teammate some make it out to be, a sentiment certainly not lost on industries and states where such a power source is still very much a necessity. The goal is clear: to unleash American energy dominance and ensure it’s affordable for all folks to buy a car and heat their homes without feeling like they need a second mortgage.

Now, flipping the channel a bit, the Trump administration hasn’t taken its foot off the gas when it comes to environmental issues relating to international relations either. As they address the Mexican sewage issue in Southern California, it’s clear they’re rejecting any solutions that don’t look 100% efficient. With big plans to increase capacity at treatment plants and cut timelines, it seems like they’re treating this cross-border issue with the seriousness it deserves. All in all, under President Trump, it looks like the EPA is angling to keep America both strong and clean, which, after all, is what a sensible government agency should be doing.
