Left Behind: The Stark Reality for Abandoned Kids

In today’s world, some people think they can simply wipe away even the most heinous actions with a claim of mental illness. A woman who attempted to eradicate her own family has been cleared of criminal responsibility because a judge ruled she was temporarily insane at the time. Now, she’s talking about “moving forward” with her life. But how does one simply “move forward” after such a devastating act, especially when it involves the atrocious death of her own daughter?

The justice system seems to have taken a detour from common sense. This woman admitted to committing one of the worst possible crimes—killing her child in a gruesome bathtub incident. The court ruled that she was not responsible because she was not in her right mind at the time. The fragile mental health explanation sounds more like an escape hatch than a sincere excuse. It is baffling how anyone can emerge from such an event and claim to be fine, as if recovering from a cold.

One can’t help but notice the glaring contradiction here: if someone can be too mentally unwell to face punishment, how can they be considered well enough later to live freely? This logic seems to give an unintentional green light for people to engage in destructive behaviors without facing consequences. It creates a confusing narrative where mental illness becomes a tool not just for understanding but for evasion.

This situation raises a serious question: should temporary insanity serve as a free pass for committing horrific crimes? It is crucial for society to remember that actions must have consequences. The leniency shown in this case sends a dangerous message that behavior, no matter how appalling, can simply be handwaved away if someone can claim they were not in their right mind. This dilutes the gravity of such heinous acts and erodes the moral fabric that holds communities accountable.

As she “moves forward,” one has to wonder about the justice for the innocent life that was lost. Perhaps instead of focusing on her fresh start, there should be a broader discussion about the true implications of such leniency, and who really benefits from it. After all, sweeping things under the rug doesn’t make them disappear; it only creates lumps that trip us later down the road.
