Lt Gen Kellogg Pushes Trump to Resolve Iran Conflict Now

The NATO summit concluded with President Trump once again taking center stage, delivering a stern warning to Iran. Apparently, the ceasefire that was loosely holding everything together is considered by the President as a “waste of time,” suggesting a hard reset on diplomacy. Instead of continuing the endless tango of talks, the President hinted at more direct measures, implying that any conflict might be swiftly resolved with a decisive show of strength. There seems to be a confidence, some might say an overly ambitious one, that things will get wrapped up quickly.

The shape of things to come was discussed by retired Lieutenant General Keith Kellogg, who sounded quite exasperated with the current state of affairs. The man seems to have no patience for complex memorandums that, in his words, just obscure the issue. He mentioned a strategy involving simplicity and military precision, like sending in advisors and opening up the Strait of Hormuz. Apparently, these actions are seen as a way to stop Iran from pestering its neighbors and make them abandon alliances, which is envisioned as a straightforward solution.

General Kellogg opined, with a sense of inevitability, that the Iranians aren’t going to care if their cities get an extreme makeover back to the pre-industrial age, thinking perhaps that they’ll just carry on with life using camels and open fires. It raises the question: does the U.S. really think economic pressure and strategic strikes will push Iran to the bargaining table? The general has made it clear that he doesn’t believe Iran will be easy to negotiate with, hinting that the art of deal-making might just be utterly lost in this scenario.

President Trump’s words carry a level of disdain that leaves little to the imagination. His description of the current Iranian regime is far from complimentary, colored in tones that suggest there’s no room for chit-chat with folks he considers to be uncouth, let alone reasonable. There’s an undeniable flair of theatrical frustration in his tones. The attitude isn’t simply tough; it’s downright dismissive. His change of heart about the regime suggests he’s tired of playing nice.

Having leaders like Vahedi and Ghalibaf on the Iranian side isn’t helping soothe nerves either. These individuals are described as hardliners, a term that evokes the image of stubbornness and refusal to budge. With the situation as it stands, continued negotiations seem as practical as squeezing water from a stone. The repeated call is for declarations, not dialogues or negotiations, leaving one to wonder if we’re headed toward a path where talking things out is reserved for history lessons, not modern conflict resolution.
