Maddow Mourns Cheney: A Leftist Embrace of Elite Opportunism

Something strange happened at Washington National Cathedral on November 20, 2025: Rachel Maddow, long a scream-leader of the left, sat in the pews beside Anthony Fauci and other establishment figures to mourn Dick Cheney. The image of Maddow at Cheney’s funeral crystallizes what sensible Americans have suspected for years — that raw hatred of Donald Trump has become the glue holding Washington’s fractured elites together.

The guest list read like a who’s who of the permanent political class — George W. Bush delivered a eulogy, Joe Biden and Kamala Harris attended, and figures from both parties crowded the service while President Trump and J.D. Vance were conspicuously not invited. The exclusion of Trump was no accident; Cheney’s public break with Trump and his endorsement of Harris in 2024 made this ceremony as much a political statement as a farewell.

If you remember the early 2000s, Rachel Maddow made a career out of vilifying Cheney for his hawkish policies and secrecy, calling him everything from villain to architect of fear. Her presence this week was therefore not a humble act of reconciliation but a performative pageant of convenience — the left embracing a once-detested figure because he helped kneecap a political rival. The social-media backlash was immediate and revealing.

Let’s not forget what many in the legacy press were eager to overlook: Cheney’s record on Iraq, surveillance, and other hard choices that cost Americans dearly. Suddenly those controversies were swept aside in favor of admiring his anti-Trump final act, proving the media and political class will happily rewrite history when it suits their present-day vendettas. This selective memory is an insult to veterans and to the millions who suffered from policies that were never given honest accounting.

The funeral fiesta for the ruling class exposes a deeper rot: identity politics and factional grudges now trump principle. Democrats and the media have shown they will cozy up to anyone who stands against the populist movement that gave voice to working Americans. That’s the real story here — a pact of convenience between elites who prefer back-room deals and performative moralizing to genuine, transparent leadership.

And what should conservative patriots take from this spectacle? Be skeptical of the sudden conversions and theatrical displays from the left; character and policy matter more than the fever of partisan rage. We must demand accountability on substance — on national security, on war, and on oversight — not get distracted by photo-ops that mask a power grab dressed up as mourning.

Hardworking Americans deserve leaders who stand for the country, not for convenience or for the latest Washington script. If the left and legacy media want to embrace Dick Cheney’s final chapter while ignoring the damage of his decades-old policies, that is their right — but we should call it what it is: opportunism dressed as reverence. Our duty is to keep fighting for truth, to hold everyone to account, and to make sure the voices of ordinary citizens never get drowned out by the elites’ latest moral fashion show.
