Elie Mystal recently clashed with conservatives over his views on America’s legal system. The debate heated up when Mark Levin argued against Mystal’s claims that the U.S. was “functionally apartheid” before 1965. Levin pointed to historical facts about which party fought for civil rights—and which party didn’t.
Levin called out Mystal’s push to rewrite the Constitution. He reminded viewers that Democrats, not Republicans, supported slavery and segregation. Levin highlighted how the 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendments passed thanks to Republican votes. Democrats, he said, fought these changes every step of the way.
Mystal claims laws before 1965 are rooted in racism. Levin shot back with history. He noted that Jim Crow laws and voter suppression were Democratic projects. The Ku Klux Klan, Levin argued, was a Democratic tool to terrorize Black Americans. Republicans, he said, pushed for integration and voting rights.
Levin criticized Mystal for ignoring how Democrats still push policies that hurt minorities. He mentioned welfare programs that broke up families and school policies that trap kids in failing schools. Levin said Democrats use fear and handouts to keep Black voters loyal, not real solutions.
Mystal wants to repeal laws like the Second Amendment. Levin called this dangerous. He said the right to self-defense is fundamental. Levin warned that stripping gun rights would leave vulnerable communities helpless. He accused Mystal of siding with criminals over law-abiding citizens.
The debate over immigration also flared. Levin defended strict border policies as necessary for safety. Mystal called these laws racist. Levin fired back, saying Democrats support open borders to gain voters, not help immigrants. He tied lax immigration to crime and job losses for Americans.
Levin ended with a stark warning. He said Mystal’s ideas would erase American history and freedoms. Rewriting the Constitution, Levin argued, is a leftist power grab. He urged viewers to reject radical changes and protect the rights the Founding Fathers secured.
Conservatives say this debate isn’t just about the past. It’s about stopping the left from dismantling America’s foundations. Levin’s takedown of Mystal, they argue, shows the stakes: defend liberty or let activists erase it.
