In a world where leftist activism seems to thrive on chaos and bedlam, Portland, Oregon, has once again found itself on the nightly news, showcasing yet another round of audacious protests. This time, it seems that nothing less than a full-on theatrical production is taking place right outside the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (I.C.E.) offices. What are these protesters up to now? Dressing up as chickens and burning MAGA hats, they appear to be making a feeble attempt at political commentary. One has to wonder precisely which part of this spectacle counts as “mostly peaceful,” a term that the legacy media so affectionately uses.
Back in 2020, Portland experienced an arduous 100 days of uninterrupted chaos, where rioting and looting took center stage. For those living nearby, it’s a scene they’ve grown all too familiar with—violent antics that disrupt their sleep and peace of mind. Good luck explaining that to the Democrats, who seem to be under the illusion that the mayhem unfolding outside I.C.E. facilities is a demonstration of the First Amendment in action. Yet, what we hear from those on the ground, like the acting I.C.E. director, paints a very different picture. It’s a battleground where protesters show up with weapons and even their own grenades. They want to call this a peaceful protest? Sure, and pigs might fly.
President Trump has seen enough and is mobilizing the National Guard to restore some semblance of order. Predictably, this has sent the Left into a tizzy, filing lawsuits left, right, and center because, apparently, law enforcement is passé and chaos is the new status quo. A city councilwoman in Portland even had the gumption to advice protesters to use burner phones and masks to dodge accountability. That’s right, the law is now something to be avoided like a bad date—a notion evidently embraced by this new breed of Democratic leadership. They’re protesting against the enforcement of immigration laws and the deportation of individuals who shouldn’t be in the country in the first place. For instance, there was a case of a former school superintendent in Des Moines who had somehow evaded the law despite a criminal record and a fake doctorate degree.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court has weighed in on racial profiling, providing a green light for reasonable suspicion, the yardstick law enforcement agencies have always used. Yet the rhetoric from the Left paints this as a step backward to a pre-civil rights era. Baloney, anyone? It’s astounding how skewed their narrative can get when facts are blatantly staring them in the face.
Amidst this madness, another tech controversy has brewed. Apple removed an app from its store that allowed users to track the locations of I.C.E. agents. The creators were practically enabling criminal activity by assisting in ambushing agents who put their lives on the line daily. Kudos to Pam Bondi, who called for an investigation into this digital doxxing. As for those claiming that I.C.E. is hunting Latinos, perhaps they should brush up on their geography. I.C.E. has arrested individuals from 180 different countries. Yes, it’s clear that the issue is criminality, not nationality.
Our law enforcement heroes already have their work cut out for them without the additional nonsense from protesters who think it’s perfectly fine to follow agents home with intimidation on their minds. In Portland, it’s high time the local government stood by those who work tirelessly to maintain order and enforce our laws, rather than tacitly supporting the disturbances that threaten the safety and livelihood of everyday Americans. As this saga unfolds, one can only hope reason and order prevail over this bizarre episode of political theater.
