The term “occupied Turtle Island” has become a rallying cry for these activists. Just as they deny Israel’s right to exist by calling it “occupied Palestine,” they claim America is an illegitimate state built on stolen Native American land. This radical framing justifies their calls to dismantle the U.S. government and replace it with a revolutionary system.
Groups like Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) are at the forefront of this movement. They’ve openly praised Hamas’ terrorism and organized campus protests that glorify violence. SJP’s “Day of Resistance” toolkit encourages followers to attack police, burn infrastructure, and target Jewish communities. Their social media posts celebrate paragliders—a direct reference to Hamas militants who used them to massacre Israelis.
Alarmingly, these groups may be receiving taxpayer dollars through university funding and grants. Despite their violent rhetoric, some administrations have turned a blind eye to their activities. This lax approach has allowed extremists to operate freely on campuses, recruiting students and planning disruptions.
