Rideshare Nightmare: Immigration Failures Put Americans in Danger

America deserves straight talk, not the soft-soaping we get from elites who pretend open borders are harmless. In Friendswood, Texas, authorities say an Uber driver identified as Sameh Chami allegedly ended a late-night ride early and was found with a 21-year-old passenger in his vehicle in a vacant lot, prompting an arrest and an ICE detainer. This was not a minor traffic stop — family members tracked the young woman’s location and rescued her, and local police say the conduct was serious enough to trigger federal attention.

The timeline is simple and damning: police say the ride began the night of June 28, 2025, the woman’s family located her via a tracking app, and Chami was arrested on July 9. ICE lodged a detainer in August, and Uber has said it permanently revoked the driver’s access to the platform while cooperating with investigators. These aren’t abstract details; they show real Americans put in danger by a combination of bad actors and porous enforcement.

DHS records make the larger problem clear: officials report that Chami entered the U.S. on a tourist visa and remained past his authorized stay, a familiar story under lax policy that hands cart blanche to overstays who never leave. When immigration rules are treated like suggestions, the American people pay the price in safety and trust. If we value our daughters, our neighborhoods, and our rule of law, we must insist the federal government enforce the immigration laws it already has.

Big tech and rideshare companies cannot dodge responsibility by issuing bland statements after the fact. Uber reportedly revoked the driver’s access only after the arrest and the story became public, which is cold comfort for the young woman who trusted a service with a logo and a promise of safety. Corporations that profit off Americans’ daily lives must be held to higher standards of background checks and rapid action when passengers are endangered.

To be clear, the criminal justice system must run its course — and in November 2025 Galveston County prosecutors said they would dismiss the case after video evidence complicated the allegations. That development only underscores why transparency and hard evidence matter; conservatives demand both accountability for wrongdoing and protection against rushed, politics-driven prosecutions. The lesson is obvious: protect victims, protect the accused, but above all protect communities by preventing dangerous people from slipping in and staying.

Don’t let the left’s outrage machine or viral sketch videos distract from the reality that immigration enforcement affects public safety. Social media is full of staged clips and phony dramatizations about rides and ICE that gaslight honest citizens and make rational debate harder. Americans want policies that keep bad actors out, not a circus of partisan theater that excuses failure and blames the victims.

Law and order is not a slogan; it’s the contract that binds a free society. ICE doing its job and local law enforcement working with federal partners is how we keep predators off our streets and our children safe, and companies like Uber must be forced to live up to their public promises. If Washington won’t secure the border and fix the visa system, then voters must elect leaders who will — hardworking Americans cannot be sacrificed to the politics of open borders.
