Sen Kennedy Blasts Anti-ICE Protesters as ‘Violent’

In the peculiar theater of politics, the spectacle over Delaney Hall’s anti-ICE protest remains unfathomably dramatic. Imagine this: peaceful protesters supposedly lived harmoniously for an entire year without a single teargas canister in sight, or so they say. Yet, as if on cue, the moment ICE agents appeared, the unrest bloomed like a summer flower in full tilt. Local leaders, who undoubtedly share wisdom gained from their armchair vantage points, declare ICE the villain of this story. Apparently, the simple presence of these federal officers incited chaos beyond redemption. At least that’s the narrative they keep spoon-feeding to the public.

Now, let’s step back and analyze the situation a bit more. Since the imposition of a mandatory curfew, which some grudgingly compare to bedtime for teenagers, authorities have arrested 61 people. The media insists on framing this scenario as unbridled chaos orchestrated by ICE. One might ask if ICE is really the malefactor here or if there’s more to uncover. Let’s face it, if a curfew leads to the apprehension of law violators, perhaps the issue lies not with those upholding the law but with those conveniently finding themselves on the wrong side of it. But of course, doing anything illegal couldn’t possibly be the problem.

During a Senate hearing, DHS Secretary Mullen outlined how some demonstrators went beyond just waving signs. It seems that certain “protesters” have engaged in behavior that even the local book club would find objectionable. There’s a fine line between expressing one’s views and assaulting officers, threatening their families, or destroying property. Funny how that’s illegal. Yet, some folks seem to believe such antics fall under freedom of expression. It makes you wonder if they flunked civics class or just subscribe to an alternative textbook altogether.

Louisiana Senator John Kennedy decided to grace the conversation with his unmistakable brand of southern charm. Offering his thoughts, he suggested a heaping dose of “common sense” might be lacking. According to him, it’s no secret that illegal immigration is, well, illegal. The esteemed senator emphasized that peaceful protests can occur without bloodshed. How shocking, right? Holding up a finger to those who mistake violence for bravery, Kennedy decried the actions of those who have turned protests into a physical confrontation. It’s a long shot, but perhaps if miscreants softened their approach, they’d find themselves less entwined with law enforcement.

The reality is clear. If you willingly lock horns with ICE officers, expecting to be greeted with cookies and milk is probably delusional. As Kennedy humorously hinted, agents will leave most people be—provided they steer clear of criminal behavior. The media’s portrayal of civil rights violations often overlooks one crucial detail: don’t break the law, and chances are authorities won’t interrupt your day. Or, if theatrics are your preference, you could continue seeing arrests as a badge of honor. Indeed, the plot thickens at Delaney Hall, and the curtain rarely falls in the world of political drama.
