In the ongoing saga of Portland’s political theater, three individuals were recently arrested after anti-ICE protests spiraled out of control. Once again, Portland has become a hotbed for chaos, with city officials seemingly content to let anarchy unfold right under their noses. The local politicians’ hesitation to take a firm stance against this upheaval leaves many wondering if they’re secretly auditioning for roles in a new sitcom called “How Not to Govern a City.”
As usual, the brave men and women of ICE find themselves hunkering down in a city that feels more like a battlefield than the peaceful metropolis it ought to be. The ongoing protests have been raging for over a hundred days, often escalating into violent outbursts. Yet, Portland’s police force remains sidelined, thanks to local politics that prioritize appeasing certain vocal groups over ensuring public safety. It’s a strategy that sounds more like a recipe for disaster than a plan for peace.
With local leaders seemingly more interested in maintaining their political image than addressing the chaos on the streets, it’s no wonder immigration officials are shaking their heads. They’re left to fend for themselves while protesters gleefully continue their attempts to undermine law enforcement. The mayor and city council have adopted a fascinating management style akin to an absent teacher allowing a food fight to erupt in the cafeteria – expect this time, the stakes involve national security.
There is, however, a silver lining in the form of federal intervention. The National Guard is set to roll into town, hopefully ready to restore some semblance of order to a city desperately in need of a disciplinary figure. President Trump’s administration has taken decisive action to not only address the troubles in Portland but also to tackle the bigger picture of national security by labeling certain protestors as domestic terrorists. While some might clutch their pearls at such a designation, it’s hard to argue against the protection of public safety.
Meanwhile, the administration continues to wage an aggressive campaign against drug cartels, who are responsible for more American deaths than any terrorist organization. With the border now more secure, these cartels are feeling the squeeze, and it’s about time they were shown that the United States will not tolerate the poison they peddle. It’s a refreshing change to see leadership take a stand against both domestic and international threats, rather than burying their heads in the sand. It’s high time the local officials in Portland get on board, or at least out of the way, as the federal government steps in to do the job they refuse to tackle themselves.
